Sony HDTV cabinet not level when installed on stand.

Sony XBR9 40" HDTV isn't level when installed on Sony supplied stand. TV cabinet tilts forward and the right side is lower than the left side. Reinstalling the TV on the stand did not solve the problem.

  • Anonymous Jan 14, 2010

I have received another unit (in exchange) from the seller. The new unit is level. The problem appears to have been with defective pedestal stand on the 1st XBR9.

  • Anonymous Jan 14, 2010

To clarify, I received a complete new HDTV from the seller. The TV cabinet itself could have contributed to the original problem, however I think that it is unlikely. I made measurements on both stands and the original appeared to have discrepancies while the replacement appeared to be correct. It may be that the 40, 46, & 52 inch TVs use that same stand and that there was a batch of defective stands made.

Did you resolve this problem? I just received my kdl52xbr9 with the same problem. I called Sony customer service as soon as I found out this problem. A technician from the local Sony Service Center will take a look at it in a couple of days.

Testimonial: "Learning that someone else had a similar problem was very helpful in guiding my response to the problem."

Tv turns on for 5 seconds then switches itself off and the stand by light flashes

The tv is putting it's self into protection mode, this could be due to a simple component failure or possibly a faulty panel, Unless you are electrically experienced it would be best to have the TV checked by a service workshop. This model can have faulty caps in the power supply which is a straight forward fix but depends on your level of electrical skill.

How to Change Lid Switch on Roper RAS6233KQ Top Load Washer

Disconnect both hot and cold water line from the water inlet valve. Mark the hot and cold so you don't get them mixed up. There are 2 philips head screws at the back of the machine, holding down the console to the cabinet. One in each rear corner. Slide the console forward slightly and tilt back. There are 2 metal clips that hold the cabinet and top to the back panel. Use a screwdriver and pry both clips up. ( pay attention on how to put the clips back). Disconnect the harness to the lid switch. Now stand in front of the cabinet and tilt forward towards you while pulling forward. Cabinet should slide forward. Once the cabinet has been separated fro the back panel, lift the lid up. On the right side of the lid you will see 2 screws. remove screws. (theses are the screws that secure the lid switch to the top). Now go to the back of the cabinet at the opening and look in the corner where you just removed the 2 screws, You will see a green ground wire screwed to the cabinet. Should be a 5/16 screw. (not 100% sure). Remove screw. there are 2 small clips holding the tubing for the wire harness in place. Popping both clips out should release the lid switch. Now disconnect harness holder from the top of the cabinet by pressing in the plastic clips at the side. Pay attention to the direction of the plug. Put the new plug in the same direction as the one you removed. Once you have inserted the plug and it snaps back into place, thread the tubing back behind both metal clips and clip those back in place. Secure the ground wire back to the cabinet. Now mount the lid switch back to the cabinet. You can do this with the lid up. Secure both screws into the lid switch. Close and open the lid to test the lid switch. You should hear a clicking sound. Now its time to put the cabinet back on.
Standing in front of the cabinet, tilt it forward towards you and line it up with the base frame. Tuck the front bottom lip on the cabinet under the lip of the base. Make sure that the tabs sticking up from the base lines up with the bottom of the cabinet. Be patient, may take you awhile to get the cabinet back in position.
Slide the back panel forward back in place. make sure it tucks into the back of the cabinet. Once its in place, now you can reinstall the two metal clips that secure the back panel to the cabinet. reconnect the harness to the lid switch. You can now put the 2 screws back that hold the console to the cabinet.
That should do it. Plug the washer back in and start using.

We bought an RCA 46 in hdtv. The tv does not seem to be level. One side is about 1 CM lower than the other side. Doesnt sound like a big difference but we can stop noticing it. I looked at the stand...

Go into menu and to video settings and look for the tilt function. If not there you must go into to the service menu with the original remote. In order to give you proper instructions for service menu, I must have the proper model number as fixya sometimes has the wrong one.

TV tilts forward on base about 15 degrees, TV will pivot left or right but won't remain perpendicular or upright.

The only things I could think of causing this would be either the hardware not tightened up properly or defective base (stand.) Make sure all the screws are tightened securely in the bottom of the base and in the back of the tv where the base attaches. Someone may have used the wrong screw holes to attach the base but there really should only be 4 holes to use to screw the base to the tv. This may need returend to the retailer for an exchance of the base.
  1. Oh, the last thing to check is that someone did not put the base on in reverse. Most have a small alightment tab that makes sure the front of the base goes to the front of the tv and if it is put on backwards the tv would tilt forward a few degrees.

Tv tilts back when connected to stand is this normal

NO... check and see if all 4 bolts on bottom of stand are tight. IF it is tilted and tight, remove the stand from the internal slide, re install. Sometimes it gets lodged behind the proper mounting point.

Sony Bravia 40" LCD TV Stand

There is a slotted area on the bottom of the unit and the bracket on the stand slides over top of it. There should have been four screws that came with the packaging that fit in the four locations in the lower center of the cabinet back that secures the unit to the Stand.
I hope this helps,
