Dell PowerEdge 1600SC Server Logo
Anonymous Posted on Dec 16, 2009

I just managed to mess up my 1600 SC with Linux Mandrake. I want to change it from raid 5 to Win 7 and turn it into a JBOD. I can't get it to recognize the dvd player so the win disc won't fire up...ideas? Thanks!

Thanks - I'll check that. I don't want to use it as a server anymore, just a JBOD with Win 7.

Is there a RAID card Eg PERC installed? If so, did you use the hardware raid setup? Also, Why do you want to put Windows 7 on a Server? Have you thought about Windows Server 2003 or 2008?

Open her up and check all the connections and also the BIOS settings. Does the DVD drive appear in the BIOS detection screen? I would suggest tackling the DVD issue first! Maybe that you need to change the order that it boots so that the DVD drive is first.

Why does computer lose connection to 8 bay JBOD unit

RAID , DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD, like the insect spay commercial yelled. RAIDDDDDDDD
no computer told at all and no OS told of VAST nor versions.
No bay makers name and connections names, to the bay.
what class if connection is that, of vast.

I have many raids here, all are raid 6 and real blade servers.

jbod , just a bunch of disks, shows up as (yours) 3 of 8 disks.
do you have a raid controller here (pci-e slot)
desktop PC with 6 or 8 sata ports. some dead? BIOS coin cell dead/?
or SAS server or NAS
or using the lame old intel RAID features in the Intel RAID SATA chip no longer support at all by intel. (OS upgrade kills that)
running only software RAID? who's?

if not a RAID card?
the run smart tests. see if all disk pass , this is first.
100%free and safe

https://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup/

wha tech does is listen to each HDD spin, with ears.
use screw driver long handle to ear and blade on hdd case.
hear it spin if not ,it is dead.
I love scotties posts.

https://youtu.be/U927cYhQXB4?t=45

this simple test works on all machines on earth that spin..
do so safely.
learn the skill or buy a $5 mechanics stethoscope at the auto store.
wow, even better.
way 2, is a kitchen towel card board tube to ear. wow costs zero.

the PC with 6 or 8 sata ports
all must be enabled in bios if the coin cell is dead, well they fail randomly,CMOS goes NUTS

no external HDD cage told, at all , maker and model
and if had told that I can work the problem back from there
and 10x less words and less error, amazing.

I am having a problem with my dell poweredge 1800, it beeping continuous

Assuming this is still an issue...old as it is...

You need to boot the server and press the correct prompt to enter the BIOS of your PERC RAID controller. There you need to manage your physical/logical volumes.

Chances are that either you had a drive failure or the metadata on your RAID volume (JBOD?) was corrupted. This is a common issue with these LSI-based PERC[5-6]i RAID controllers that Dell utilized.

I cannot install windows 7,no disk seen are there drivers for raid smart array 5I for windows 7? DL 740 G1 , 8 x 2700Mhz+40GB ram , 4 x 73gb Raid 5

Not quite sure what your problem is but I would recommend getting Windows Server for a server like this. The HP site recommends the following OSes: Microsoft Windows 2000,
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter) ,
LINUX (Red Hat, SuSE) or Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Edition. It is unlikely Windows 7 will install on this 5 year old server.

Mandrake

Hi Awene,

Due to yours is RAID 0. I don`t think you still can recover any of your data if you have backup before then you are very lucky. I recommend that you should use RAID 3 or higher. Please refer to this link for more details http://www.acnc.com/04_01_00.html
