Hi,

Normally in a Motorola T5700, to set a specific channel to monitor (and reply to) called your working channel, you press the Menu (center) button and the current channel shown in the display will flash. Press either the + or - buttons to change to your desired channel number which should be identical to both radios. Press the PTT button to save.

Likewise, both radios must have identical Interference Eliminator Code. To set code, press Menu till the code display blinks. Press + or - to select code. Press the PTT to save. To disable the code, select 0.

Hope that this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

I have a set of motorola fv700 talkabout radios. they wont transmit to each other. i checked the inter. elim. code. they are the same. and i have even turned them off. these are new radios. i know they...

Take the radios back to a very basic setting with all special features turned off. If the radios have a Qt filter check to see it is turned off, and set your Code to zero (off) on both units. Also, check to see your battery is good in both units. Trade the battery with a known good radio to see if the problem moves to the other radio, is a simple test.

Can you use 2 different talkabouts fr50 and t5420 with each other? I have just one of each unfortunately.

  • Yes they will both talk together on the same channels just fine. Most of the more recent Talk About Radios are FRS/GMRS with 22 channels. These radios are FRS only with out the GMRS. The FRS are the first 14 channels in most talk about's as are your radios.

The talkabout t5500 and the t5725

Hello bella-9,

The T5500 is a 2 channel radio and the T5725 is a 14 channel radio. However, the radios should be compatible with each other on FRS channels 1-14 as long as both radios are using the same Quiet Talk code. If the Quiet Talk settings are different the radios will not be able to communicate with one another.

Assuming all settings are the same (as you say) and the units are within range of each other (typically less then a mile over clear, level terrain) they should work just fine.

Best Regards,
Ken
