Worked fine for a year. Then after a big rain storm about 2 weeks ago, this is all that shows on screen. Retraced antenna to the receiver and checked connection. Reciever works at another source. Could it be that I need a new antenna?
I have had my Sportster 1 for over 3.5 years with never a problem About Mid May 2008, I saw the "aquiring signal" notice in the middle of my screen. Everything wlese was fine. I saw the channel #, the time, the 3 signal bars, the name of the channel, etc. Everything EXCEPT actually hearing it.
I called sirius and they say they didnt know what could be causing this. I am really surprised to see this many people having the same problem.
Anyway, I boughrt another Sportster 1 on E-bay for $49.99 and am waitingfor it to arrive. Hope it works.
I have the same problem started about 2 months ago. i find taht when the car is not moving i get a signal and it functions fine. however 2 mins into driving and it will go dead until i stop the car again. by the way my unit worked fine for 1 yr 6 months. leaving it in the car here in NC
I also have the same problem with my Sportster 4. The problem started about two months out of warranty. If I put the unit on it's cradle at an angle and fiddle around with that angle I can get a clear signal. I need to put a wedge underneath the right side of the unit between it and the cradle to hold it's position. I think I have traced the problem to a bad antenna connection on the circuit board inside the unit. This may have come about from removing it from my car to use in my office on a daily basis. That daily stress on the solder joints have broken them. I can wiggle the antenna conection post and see the solder joints move. I am going to take it to a local electronics repair shop to see if they can resolder the connections as it is too tight of a space for me to get to.
Unfortunatly I don't think it's the cold. I live in GA were it is hot in January. Not really, but it's never really cold enough for the Carhart so... So here's what I did. I pulled the magnetic antenna off the car. Gave it a couple of good smacks between my hands, put it back down on the car. Good as new. For now..
I found that if you bring it in the house every single day and bring it into work too . it will work continusley only when you don't leave it in the car.....i think they don't like the cold....
If under warranty get a replacement. If not, you are beat, they are dead when they stop getting signal and you have tried different antenna. It's sad but true.

yes , there is definitley a problem with the siriuse satellite, everyone accros the country is having the same problem, see internet.......aquiring signal
My receiver is different (SC-FM1) but got the same problem here. Worked fine for about a year and then started getting "acquiring signal" more often and for longer periods as time went by. Finally after 6 more months it was absolutely ridiculous. A few days ago I bought a new "dot" antenna and it worked right away for about a few hours. Now it takes forever to acquire a signal but once I get it, it only cuts out every 15 minutes or so for about 5 minutes. I'm sure it will get worse. By the way, the unit was professionally installed. I installed the new antenna on the car roof exactly how they had it before.
Had the same problem around the same time frame. Hoping it was a receiver issue, I switched to a sportster 5 but did no good. Could this be related to terrestrial repeater violation Sirius and XM are facing?
located in NY having the same problem worked fine for 1 year and now i just have horrible service it is directly hooked up to my radio, and now all i get is aquiring signal
Same problem here in GA. It started to acquire the signal more often about two weeks ago and then, after a rainstorm on 03/07/2008 it just says acquiring signal.
fyi
I just performed a factory. This did not correct the issue.
Mine lasted 1year 2 monthes. Just paid for new 1 year
subscription and it died In the ice storm 7Mar08. Seems to have
happened to lots of people. Planned obsolete?
Have the same problem. Unit says "Acquiring signal" or "Antenna not connected". I also get the little 'x' in the lower left of the screen. It was intermittent until yesterday, now it doesn't seem to work at all. I put the unit in my home and it says the same thing. Being just two months out of warranty, Sirius basically said "not our problem" Well if thats their attitude after just two months out of warranty, shame on Sirius. So much for customer service and standing behind your products.
The sportster 4 rarely has this problem. Where are you located?? Terrestrial repeaters are only needed in big cities where buildings blocking the signal are an issue. So if this doesn't apply to your location, then it's probably the unit itself.
