The magnetron may be bad or the it may be a problem with the circuit board. Repairing a microwave is not a DIY repair for the average consumer. The microwave can shock you even if it is not plugged in. It contains a high voltage capacitor which will hold a charge. They are complicated and not easy to repair. You have to ask yourself if it is cost effective to pay someone to repair it. If it is a countertop microwave it is almost certain the best course of action is to just buy a new microwave as the cost of repairs will exceed the price of a new one. If it is an over the cooktop microwave it may be worth repairing if it is a top of the line unit. If it is a low cost unit then it is more than like not worth the cost of the repairs.

GE Spacemaker XL - fan stopped working, light will come on and timer will count down.

either the magnatron fried , or the fuse fried... either way the microwve has to be taken down and opened up.
If you have the serial number , GE will send you a replacement magnatron (but will not service the unit for you).
contact GE and they will take care of you... the magnatrons are warranted for like 10 years....

Microwave timer works but will motor will not run/cook.

If everything works on the unit, but you do not receive any heat or possibly the turntable does not turn you have a faulty magnetron (controls heat) and a faulty motor (controls turntable). You would require service on the unit, if parts are available. Some microwaves are so small in cubic foot size, that manufacturer's do not have parts available for purchase/repairs.

Timer works, microwave doesen't cook

You sont say wheteher the unit workss if you manually set it to on.

In your situation if its just related to the timer, then the timer switch is not engaging the power circuit and needs to be replaced.

Can't use the microwave at all

you have either a bad keypad or control board.

If you have operation of some buttons and not others its the keypad. if you have no operation out of the buttons at all you have a bad control board.

If you turn your microwave on and it sets and the timer counts down you have a bad interlock switch..

please let me know exactly what your microwave does when you set the cook time

Frigidaire won't run

Quite often this is due to a bad door switch. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
