Depending on what type of computer you have there's several options but the easiest route would be this....
1) Turn your computer completely off and on. 2) When the computer is booting up look for "SETUP" or "ENTER SETUP" and press whatever key is required. (Doing this will take you into BIOS) 3) When you are in BIOS just look around for "Onboard Video:Enabled" and change it to "Disabled" 4) Save your settings and turn your computer off. 5) Install new video card.
Yes generally speaking when you drop in a videocard it typically will disable the built on one. You may have to disable it though. I know you said you did not see the onboard video in BIOS but there is almost always a setting in there to turn it off.
You mentioned that you disabled the on-board graphics card using the device mamager.
You should disable the on-board video card in the BIOS.
Go to the BIOS config and disable the Video.
Go into video settings (control panel- display- settings) Here there should be a drop down box in it you should see you onboard and new video card switch to the new one.
enable your onboard graphics and plug your monitor into the onboard. start up your pc and install any needed drivers for the secondary graphics card. right click on your desktop and go to your display properties you should see a faded out screen that has a 2 and a lit screen that has a 1 right click on the faded screen and check enabled then move your monitor cable over to the new vid card right click on the lit 1 and disable it making 2 your primary.
Try using a different monitor if you have one available, or disconnect the monitor from the computer and then turn it on. If you see a logo or color bar or message saying no signal, then your monitor is OK and you should take a look at your video card.
If you suspect your video card, there is very little you can do with a no video situation. but one thing you can do is to remove the video card completely and wait for a few minutes. then put it back in and try to start your computer. This is just in case you have corrupted video memory keeping it from functioning. otherwise, replace the card.
In the case that your video is built into you computer, buy a new card and disable the onboard video in the BIOS. That will take some browsing in the BIOS setup, but it shold be fairly easy to find. once it is disabled, the new card will be able to function and you should be ok from there. Otherwise, it's motherboard replacement time.
Hi, uninstalling the onboard video will only be reinstalled by Windows next time you boot up. Disabling it in the Device Manager might and mght not do the trick if your mb is set on using the onboard.
You might want to try and disable the onboard video in the CMOS/BIOS set-up. In some instances, you are asked in the BIOS what video will be used such as onboard, AGP or PCI or a selection of something like that. Also you can try and not allocating any memory to the onboard video.
Hope this be of some help. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck.
