Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

Black lines on faxes or copies

Do you have black lines in your scanned or copied documents? The typical problem is ink, correction fluid or trash blocking the image sensor. Look at the picture below, the image sensor is marked by the gray box. Use a paper towel dampened with window cleaner to clean this glass strip. Do not spray windows cleaner on the glass just the paper towel. Gently scrub the glass to clean off any trash or marks that may be there. Let the glass dry for a few minutes and then try to copy or scan something.

You should have a clean copy now. If you have any questions you can contact us at: [email protected]

Lines and streaks are usually caused by ink or trash blocking the scanner pickup. You need to open the top of the scanner and clean the scanner glass. Here is a link to a guide that shows where to look for something blocking the sensor.

When I put a doc on the glass to copy -the print has a black vertical line down the page. When I print from computer to print - it works fine - there is no line of ink. Can I fix this myself? What would u reccomend

A long black line on scanned images is usually caused by a piece of trash on the scanning mechanism.
Look at the scanning arm (the thing that moves when you scan something) and then see if it has any trash on it. If it looks good then you may have a mechanical malfunction in that part.
Let us know hat you find.
