/why is water leaking inside fridge?

All of the cooling in the unit takes place in the freezer, so all of the defrosting is done in the freezer. The cooling coil, (evaporator) has a drain pan that catches the defrost water. That drain pan has an opening that is probably plugged with debris or the drain line is plugged.

Water is dripping slowly from the ceiling of the fridge where there is an opening to the freezer area. The water is pooling up in the crisper drawer at a pretty good rate. How can I end this?

Ice is being made in the bottom of my frezer

Remove the food and the ice maker from the freezer ( if equiped ) . Remove the rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle , below the coils , defrosting , until you see the drain hole . Use hot water to help defrost the hole . Once water starts going thru the hole , use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru , to remove any unseen debris in the drain line . Use an ALUMINUM or COPPER solid wire , 14-16 guage , with the insulation completely off , and insert one end into the drain hole as far as possible without any force . Wrap the other end about 1 1/2 to 2 turns , around the black rod (defrost heater) , above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heat will transfer from the heater , to the wire , keeping the hole from freezing up again .

Water leakage thru the freezer door - GE side by side fridge

I believe your defrost condensate drain has a blockage of ice and will need to be defrosted and and clean the condensate line from the freezer to the condensate collection plate below your refrigerator. Most times the blockage begins slowly until the opening of the drain hole under the evaporator freezes itself shut. Below is a link to some solutions I have collected over a period of time. Also has a short movie that makes the repair look more simple. There are many reasons for this happening for example water leaking from a water supply line for the dispenser or ice maker, a crack in the defrost pan, water leaking inside and draining through the refrigerator cabinet, but most are cased by a defrost drain line blockage. Looking for help with the Whirlpool GR2SHK-XKQ00, top mount refrigerator. Water is coming into the refrigerator from the freezer, possibly linked to self-defrost cycle, def. not ice maker. Drain pan is...

Remove the lower freezer panel end then remove the rear panel . Remove the ice under bottom panel . Useing a hair dryer , heat the aluminum tray under the coils until you see the black drain hole . Continue defrosting the hole until free of ice . Could help useing a small screwdriver into hole . Even hot water into hole could help to clear . Once water will drain into hole , use a small hose inserted into hole and blow thru it to clear and obstruction in the line (line is inside the cabinet , unaccessable ) , Then find about a 14-16 gauge aluminum wire , aluminum fence post tie , aluminum ground wire , and insert it into the hole until resistence is felt . Wrap the top portion about 1 turn around the calrod (black) heating element and cut off the rest of the aluminum wire . The element will transfer heat to the wire during defrost , to keep the drain hole clear of ice .

Water leaking from freezer

Check for a blocked defrost drain. Take the panel off at the back of the freezer section and find the small hole at the very bottom center below the cooling coils. Use hot (but not boiling) water and a turkey baster to flush it out until water runs through it. (it will go into the defrost drain pan, where it will evaporate)
This will prevent water from comming out the freezer door and leaking onto your floor and running down your copper pipe to the basement.

It leaks Water can leak from these areas:

The bottom front of the refrigerator or freezer door
The back of the refrigerator
The inside ceiling of the refrigerator
The inside back wall of the refrigerator
Underneath the front of the refrigerator
The bottom front of the refrigerator or freezer door Self-defrosting refrigerators usually dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates. (See a more detailed explanation of this in the How Things Work section of our website).

If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

In some refrigerators, the defrost water is intentionally directed down the back wall of the refrigerator, where it then flows to the bottom of the refrigerator compartment and out to a small drain--usually located beneath one of the drawers at the bottom of the refrigerator. If the drain becomes clogged or blocked, the water may back up. To fix this problem, clear the obstruction.

Another cause may be the following. The refrigerator may have doorframe heaters to evaporate any condensation on the cabinet frame. If your refrigerator is equipped with a switch inside that says “energy saver” or something similar, while running in that mode the door heaters are disabled. Turn the switch to the opposite setting and wait 24 hours. If the condensation disappears the problem is solved.

The back of the refrigerator Water coming from the back of the refrigerator usually comes from either the ice maker water valve or line (if there is an ice maker), or from the defrost drain pan.

Here's what to do:

If the water is coming from the ice maker water valve, check to make sure the water tubes are attached properly and are fastened tightly.

If the water seems to be coming from any part of the valve itself, replace the valve.

If the water appears to be coming from the defrost drain pan, inspect for holes or cracks, and replace the pan if necessary.

The inside ceiling of the refrigerator Water accumulating on the ceiling of the refrigerator is usually caused by a clogged drain in the freezer section beneath the evaporator. The clogged drain will cause water from the self defrost cycle to leak into the divider between the freezer and refrigerator. This water may then freeze and cause condensation build-up on the refrigerator ceiling. The solution to this problem begins with unclogging the drain. It may also be necessary to remove the entire freezer/refrigerator divider to thoroughly dry the insulation in the divider. Occasionally the insulation needs to be replaced to prevent a recurrence of the problem. This can be a big job – you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.

Underneath the front of the refrigerator If the refrigerator is equipped with a water dispenser on the freezer door, check if the water line to the dispenser is leaking. Also, check the drip pan to be sure it isn’t out of place, broken or cracked.

It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.
