Was changing channels with cable remote and changed something, now it will not turn off or on with the remote... but neither will it work with buttons on the TV,..The screen is black and the only way to shut it down is to pull the cord. the picture Tube then flashes so I know that the problem is not the tube...No sound or anything. When the power is reconnected the yellow light comes on instead of the red power indictator there is the static charge noise but no pic and no sound. pushing the tv/Av button then will turn it off but now way to turn back on. Is this in sleep mode or is its brains scrambled. Sometimes after turning of with the TV/AV button I can turn back on but no pic and no sounds. Help please. this is weird.

That probably means you need a new remote. Or new batteries. The blinking light means it's trying to turn on but failed to do so because it's dead or old.
Mar 10, 2015 - If you are connecting your cable or satellite box using an HDMI cordyou will ... You just need to change the input of your TV then scan for channels. ... Except the Vizio TV will not receive a channel that all the other TVs get.
OK the cable box remote is the only one that can change channels in this case. because you are using the tuner in the cable box not the TV. all you need the TV remote for is to turn the TV on and off and turn the sound up and down. if you used the cable input on the TV then the tv remote would be used to change the channels.
The remotes have several device keys at the top of the remote. They have abbreviations like "VCR", "DVD", "TV", "CBL". By default some actions are locked into a specific key. By default, the volume buttons will always control the TV volume and the channel buttons will always change channels on a digital box.
If you have a digital box, and the channels wont change, the default locks might have been removed. Consult the instruction manual that came with the remote and re-lock the buttons to the correct device key. Otherwise you will need to press the "tv" button when trying to change volume and the "cbl" button when trying to change channels.
If you do NOT have a cable box and are just simply trying to use the universal remote as a primary remote, you will need to unlock the global channel lock. Consult the manual for the remote or check online for the remote guide. The Company which makes the remotes is called Universal Electronics and you can find digital copies of their manuals on the Brighthouse Websites.
the remote will not change channels..i have a 15'coby flat screen which was hooked up with a cable box..the cable remote changed channels...now that i put this t.v. in my daughters room without the cable box we cannot change channels on it...the remote it came with does not work..and a universal will not work..the universal works on all t.v's in the house except that one..
You may be able to program your cable box remote to control your TV in addition to your cable box. When they initially set up your cable box they probably left a pamphlet giving you instructions on how to program your remote. I'm not sure why you can't change the TV channels manually but this may give you a work-around.
Was it working before? Is it possible you selected the wrong brand of TV when programming the remote? Do you use a cable box or satellite dish with your TV (in other words, do you change channels by changing the channel on the TV, or on the digital box connected to your TV)?
Thanks but I no longer require assistance. I tried to remove my post but it does not seem possible. I no longer need assistance because I sent the TV back. There is no solution as there is no universal remote code --- ridiculous for a brand new TV set that most people are probably going to want to use with cable!
Set up your infrared blasters connected from your IR port on the Tivo and by placing the two lead lights in front of your cable box so it (the cable box) can read the signal. Then go to Channel settings accessed through Tivo Central and follow the questions. It will ask you to change channels until the remote is working correctly. This all worked on a different "input" on my Mitsubishi TV (it has multiple inputs. I have the cable input on a different "input" to make it work.
Hope this helps. Call TIVO tech assistance because they are the ones who talked me through this.
