Hello, I have a kenmore elite 106.56562400 side by side refrigerator. It is approximately 4 and 1/2 years old. On the top of the refrigerator door there is a control box. This control box randomnly makes beeping sounds which I've discovered is due to it trying to change the temperature by itself. The default settings are freezer (0) and refrigerator (37). After turning on the refrigerator, it starts at (0) then goes down to -5 and whenever it makes beeping sounds I think it's trying to lower the temp more but it can't due to -5 being the lowest setting. I think there's something wrong with either the wiring connected to the freezer button or the control board itself. I checked the price on a control board and before jumping to conclusions I want to make sure what the problem could be before buying a $170 part.
Your most likely cause is the $170 control board. It is the only thing that I know of that can change the temperature automatically. Please rate this post.
