If you have an issue where your picture turns off and the green power light starts flashing, you are most likely looking at a weak or old lamp. Do not be confused with a pix loss and a RED light flashing, as this can be caused by many things. The normal sequence of events for this fix is this: 1) TV turns on normally, plays for 1 to 3 minutes (may be more or less time) 2) Picture goes out and green power light begins flashing. It may flash for up to 2 minutes 3) green light turns on solid (stops flashing) and picture returns. 4) Picture goes out again and process repeats.
You may have been told that "if the lamp light isn't on, it isn't a bad lamp". FALSE! A weak lamp will cause the process above to occur. Other signs of a weak lamp: The reflector in the lamp is very cloudy You may see a "growth" or "bubble" on the vertical glass tube which is the lamp You haven't replaced the lamp in quite some time or it is the original lamp from when you purchased the TV.
In cases like these, try a new lamp. Stick with an original Sony lamp, as there are many stories (both personally witnessed by me and also documented on the web) about problems with after market replacement lamps. And remember, lamps DO NOT have a shelf life; you can store them in a good environment (not too hot or cold!) for an indefinite period with no ill effects.
I have a mits. 82738 tv which would shut off after 20 minutes when first turned on .
Loose sound and picture.
Looked up error code in service manual and it said the lap was the problem.
Replaced lamp and now it works fine and the picture quality is great.
It could be the temp sensor going bad. This sensor sits on top of the
metal housing which the bulb assembly slides into. The bulb assembly
will have a hole on top and this is where the sensor is above. There is a
small blue and white wire that plugs into it. If you pull the wire out
and put a paper clip or wire in the coupling you will basically bypass
the sensor connecting the blue and white wire. If your tv turns on then
that is your problem. Its cheap too. Here were my symptoms..1] Turn tv
on 2] Bulb would light up..(which eliminates the ballast) regular
picture would show up (which eliminates the bulb and color wheel) 3] 30
seconds later tv would shut down with 3 flashing lights. After bypass
the tv turned on as always and hasnt shut down yet. Always un plug tv
first. Get the replacement part to avoid overheating and possible fire
5 times Red LED blinks means Lamp Driver Error. (KDF-55WF655) 2 possible reasons, either Lamp is gone or Ballast Supply got bad. Replace lamp first, in most cases it solved the problem. How old is this TV and did you replaced lamp recently? Thanks.
