SONY STR-DG510 Sub woofer does not work

I just bought a Sony STR-DG510 but the sub woofer that I hooked up to it will not work at all. Do I need a powered sub. I hate to have spent all this money and not have it work.

You will need a powered sub because your receiver does not amplify in the sub output.

How to change the connector on subwoofer of coby 5.1 cs-p92 so that it can play with Sony str dh750 receiver

Before you cut any wires, make sure the sub woofer can handle the power from the Sony. Is the sub powered? What are speaker specs on the Sony . Is the output jack on the Sony meant for an unamplified sub? You have to know the answers to all this so you won't blow up the Sony and/or the sub woofer

Can I and how do I hook a subwoofer to my Sony str-de705 receiver

It depends. You can connect an active (self-powered) sub-woofer to the STR-DE705. You can't connect a passive sub-woofer that needs power from the receiver. If the sub-woofer has its own power cord, then it's an active unit. See https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37001 for more information. You'll also need a RCA subwoofer cable. This is like a RCA audio cable but only has one plug on each end. (Using a regular audio cable may risk a short when the extra plugs hit something.) Many subwoofers will come with the audio cable. If you do need one, they are available at most places that sell cables, including Amazon.com .

Here is an example of an active subwoofer: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/37001 . This is the Yamaha YST-SW012.

I hope this helps.

I have a sony str de 325 receiver....what sub woofer will go with it and where do you plug it into the receiver?? Thanks

You will need a powered sub, one that has a built in amp. It will also need speaker terminal type inputs. Use the B channel to send signal to the woofer. Since the audio from the B channel is full range, use the crossover on the sub to determine which frequencies you want to hear. I would start at 100Hz and go up and down from there. Use the gain to adjust the volume in relation to the other speakers. The sub volume will be affected by the master volume.

I just bought a new Sony STR-DH510 reciever, I connected a sub woofer and 2 surround sound speakers to it and it worked perfectly. The next day I go to turn it on and it will turn on for about 30 seconds...

Problem is in the amplifier output stage...there is probably a shorted component...the short could have come from a bad speaker..or the speaker wires getting touched together while it was on...you could return to store if it is new and get a new one...maybe it was a return and accidentally got put back into stock

I bought a sony receiver, but i can't connect the sub from JBL on to it?

If the model ??? JBL sub is self-powered like most just run an RCA cable from Sub Woofer Audio Out to it and select YES for Subwoofer in the setup menu.

No sound from sub woofer

sub may be blown up, on protect, sub could be hooked up wrong. Did it work before and if so were all the wires hooked up the same? check to see if its being overloaded by blown speakers, check all speakers one by one, check your amp sub output with another speaker, I have had this problem form hooking up wrong.
Hope this helps...........

Connecting a Sony Subwoofer SA-W2500 to a STR DE 598

It is based on your sub-woofer type..whether powered or passive sub woofer..
Assume that you have powered one..RCA sub woofer jack is the best to feed it ..you should use RCA sub woofer output on your receiver as well..good luck

RCA Sub-Woofer

Did you try making sure the subwoofer is turned on under the set up menu on the Sony Receiver?

Press Set Up, Press the left or right button above the scroll wheel until you get to SW. It should say SW: ON or SW: OFF. If it says SW: OFF, use the Scroll wheel to scroll right until it says SW: ON. Also, make sure you aren't in 2CH mode, try A.F.D or surround sound.
