Although my printer is connected, has been set up and sounds like it works when it's "printing" B&W printing doesn't work and colour printing is not coming out right. What's wrong?! The ink cartreges are brand new (as is the printer) but I just can't seem to get the thing to print properly... Thanks! David

You likely have separate ink cartridges and print heads on your printer. Double check your printer manufacturer and model on the net and see if that's the case. You likely will have to either replace the print heads. I've also had to clean the membrane between the cartridge and the print head which gets a dried coating on it periodically. try recommended isopropyl alcohol and water mix and put a few droplets on the membrane, let sit for a half hour and see if the droplets have passed through the membrane to the heads. Although all the efforts usually are in vain in the older type printers, if head replacements doesn't work, or what i suggested, then get a new printer. It 's cheaper. and the new ones have solved a lot of the older dried head problems.

Try to insert a different known working black cartridge to identify if it's a faulty cartridge issue.

Unistall any previous you have installed for your device.

The Driver for Your Product Is Included in the Windows 7 Operating System (i.e. Win 7-32bit & 64bit).
Simply connect the printer to your computer with a USB cable, and Windows Update automatically installs the driver for your product.

Although you are only trying to print a B & W picture, the color print cartridge/cartridges must also contain ink in order for the printer to work. All print cartridges must contain ink for printing of any type to take place.
Load the color print cartridges and the B & W picture will print.
If you were trying to print a color picture and the B & W cartridge was empty, the printer also, would not print.

It will be your printer settings, although different, yours should be similar:-

Start - Printers and faxes - RMB default printer and select properties - Advanced - Defaults - Main - Check the Grey Scale box.

You may want to upgrade the print quality aswell if printing a photo.

You need to specifyy what printer you have.

If the jets are part of the cartridge like HP and Lexmark, the clean the contacts on the cartridge and the printer and try again. If no-go, replace the cartridge.

If it has only ink tanks like epson, you need to purge the ink channels that are not working... Magenta and yellow with cleaner and a syringe or sqeeze bulb.

Epson Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!

Hello, In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also in Purchasing the Brother's . Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.
These printers have a chip, that will detect if it is Generic or Genunie. When using Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. Don’t waste too much ink in cleaning it.

Try cleaning the contacts in the printer and cartrage.

I know that this question was some time ago but I had same problem & found after alot of stuffing around that the laser mirrors were dirty. Need to dismantle printer to get to the the laser from behind. It is one unit that holds mirrors to all all colours. A clean of the mirrors etc & printer now works fine.

just take out the colour cartridge from the printer, then you will be able to print.
