You need to swivel the brew basket cover until it locks for the coffee to grind. Then turn the machine on and the coffe will grind. , then turn the machine off, add water and press the auto on to use the auto timer.

My grinder grinds too much coffee how do I set it to do less

For every coffee maker ever made in the history of grind and brew coffee makers??

You read the manual!

Google

make model manual

Then in settings you will find a way to regulate ground coffee amount and the water amount for the cups you are using.

The 2 dials inside top of machine where the coffee beans are what should they be on for a good strong cup of coffee

You didn’t mention what type of coffee machine. But I’m guessing that one dial his time of groaned and one dial is coarseness of grind. On the time it should be set for the amount of coffee you were making and there should be a chart with the machine tell you how much time per Ounces of coffee. If you were making 8 ounces of coffee which would be one cup the time would be very short obviously but if you’re making an entire pot of coffee which would be maybe up to 60 to 64 ounces it would be a longer time. However with the Grind coarseness knob that would be up to you on if you like strong or weak coffee. The more course to grind the week or the coffee however the more course to grind the less chance you have a burning the coffee when it brews. If you’re going for espresso the grind should be as fine as sand. If you’re going for a mild cup of coffee you might use a fairly course grind. But being as I do not know what machine you have this is all just guess work. Good luck and I hope you make great coffee

Is there a “ grind size” for coffee grounds in a de longhi expresso maker

Depending on the model. You can find the instruction manual here:

Grind time is short, puck is wet and sloppy, espresso weak

Sounds like you might have more than one problem.

From page 12 of the manual... NOTE THE LAST LINE.
"8. ADJUSTING THE GRINDER
......
• Open the lid of the bean container.
• While the grinder is running turn the grind selector switch to
the desired position (Fig. 6).
-The smaller the dots, the finer the grind.
-The bigger the dots, the coarser the grind.
Important:
The grinding grade can only be adjusted while
the grinder is actually grinding."

Our Silvia, almost 8 years old, is putting out shots too fast (10 to 15 seconds), even though we've been dialing down the grind on Rocky more fine, putting more coffee in, and tamping harder. We...

Try to redo what you have been doing, but set it to the extremes to see if everything is functioning. If you set the grind say to 4, it should come out very slow or maybe not at all.

One pin broke off on the back of the plastic top to my DGB 300BK Grind and Brew and after several temporary fixes, I need to find a new top. The grinding cycle still works if I hold the top just right,...

Kathleen,
I just called Cuisinart Consumer Service Center at 1-800-726-0190 and the representative I got (Christina) placed an order for the part and had it shipped to me. I didn't have to pay anything! It should be here in 7-10 days. Guess I'll be doing Starbucks until then, but a small price to pay overall for my favorite coffee maker.

My coffeemaker is less than two years old and a friend advised me to contact Cuisinart online about my problem, it will no longer grind up the beans can I order a new blade set and how long should they...

The DGB-550BK is better

You have not missed anything. Unplugging for longer than 16 minutes (has 15-minute memory) is the only troubleshooting you can perform. Call Cuisinart to find out if you are still in warranty. All electronics have a failure rate. Cuisinart's is acceptably low, but their coffee makers are the least reliable of all their products. The basic problem with electronic coffee makers is that coffee makers produce high heat, and high heat kills electronics and melts plastic. At least Cuisinart has a 3-year warranty - higher than the industry standard.

Let me put it another way. All coffee makers have a high failure rate. As many Cuisinart coffee makers that break down, the non-Grind-and-Brews still have a 91 rating from Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports doesn't give ANYTHING a 91 rating. A lot break, but you probably won't fare much better by switching to a different brand. The problem with a Cuisinart breaking down is that an expensive unit broke down - you wouldn't be upset if your $15 Mr. Coffee broke every year. The law of averages is on your side - a 2nd Cuisinart will probably last longer.
