Westinghouse sb915 - draining too early.

Westinghouse sb915.
Starts to fill as usual then when the pre-wash cycle begins it drains out the water it just filled with and then gives the -10 error.

Its not the water supply or the filter - something is telling it to drain before it should.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Alex

    Hey Hoymate,

    Thanks for the fast response.

Yes the drainpoint is higher than the bottom of the dishwasher - I don't think this this is a "gravity" issue.

We have just re-installed the dishwasher after replacing the element and soldering the "missing link" described in other blogs - however this is a new issue that seems to have occurred in the interim.

The initial problem was failure to heat, there have never been any other issue with premature drainage prior to the failure to heat.

The problem now is the the washer fills as normal, then when the cycle hits the next step (pre-wash)instead of retaining the water so the cycle can continue the water begins to drain as soon as you hear that cycle change. After a short time the -10 (not filling)error shows

    Hope that makes it clearer.

1. Is your drain point higher than the bottom of the dishwasher? (ie, does it drain into the garbage disposer or does the drain line drop down below the floor into house plumbing?) Did you just install the unit? You may have to install an "air gap" to prevent syphoning.

2. Did the dishwasher work then suddenly stop working? (asking for clarification)

Kenmore dishwasher: Pre-wash cycle is too short: fills with water, runs for only one second, and then drains. The rest of the cycle is fine; the dishes get clean.

Pre-wash may be compromised and a new power circuit board may be needed.
My advice: As long as the other cycles are accurate and work as usual; Pre-wash in your sink (spray off waste material) before you place the dishes in the washer and commence cleaning. Its best to wash off food and other material before washing in the machine to avoid clogging the drains and pump.

Washing Machine at the start of cycle starts to fill with water for about 5 seconds and then drains starts to fill again and drains as before, after about 10 Mins Machine cycle ends.

Two things to check, maybe the fill hoses are clogged taking too long to fill therefore it begins to drain or you have the drain hose down nthe drain toon far creating a siphon effect!

Water continuously drains and fills, and never gets particularly high

You will need to check you washer drain hose and make sure it is only inserted into your house drain pipe in the wall no deeper than 4-6 inches, alternately your house drain needs to be as high as the top of the washer lid. Be sure to secure your drain line from the washer to one of the water shut off fittings with a zip tie. You are most likely experiencing a siphon action because the washer hose is inserted too deep in the house drain. Pleazer Appliance...

Washer doesn't fill with water and begin wash cycle. I can hear it instantly draining out rather than fill, and has ran my well dry. We replaced the water pump a month ago, and it washed a few loads of...

Sounds like siphoning. This can happen if your drain pipe is too low and you run the drain hose right into it, or if there isn't any kind of air gap between the drain hose and pipe. Usually it shows up when trying to fill for the rinse cycle - it drains as fast as it fills. Or it might not fill at all. Order a "siphon break kit". They're cheap and easy to install

Frigidaire (LTF2940E) Washer starts, stops, starts, stops...

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
