You did not mention which gps systems do you have. Anyway giving you details of tom-tom gps language change instructions.

Change the language settings on your TomTom GPS device. If your TomTom GPS receiver is set to the wrong language, change the current language to the language of your choice. Perform a reset on the device as described in Step 1. When your GPS unit turns back on, tap the button in the lower right corner of the screen to continue. Tap the next screen to access the GPS receiver's main menu. Tap on the wrench icon to access the "Change Preferences" setting screen. Scroll through the "Change Preferences" screens until you see the "Change Language" icon, identified by three flags. Tap the "Change Language" icon and choose your desired language from the list. Depending on which language you chose, you may be asked to choose a new voice for turn-by-turn navigation.

For Garmin device:-

Try this below

Touch the Wrench icon which is located on the screen with the Magnifying Glass and Map icon
Touch the Wrench icon
Touch the down arrow
Touch the Lips/Mouth icon
Touch the top right blue box
Touch the up arrow until you see American English
Touch American English
Touch OK
This should now be in English.

Press Language (Lips Icon)
If you need to change the voice language press VOICE and select an English voice.
If you need to change the text language press TEXT LANGUAGE and select English

1. Press TOOLS (the spanner symbol)
2. Press Settings (the spanner symbol) or LOCALE on some models (Blue Symbol)
3. Press Language (Lips Symbol)
4. You'll see 3 items. One for Voice Language, one for Text Language and one for keyboard.
5. If you need to change the voice to english Press Voice Language and select an english name.
6. If you need to change the text to english press Text Language and select english or American English if you're in the USA

This should solve your problem

A. If it's the display language you need to change:
To change the text language:

1. Touch the Wrench icon on the screen with the Magnifying Glass, Map and Brief Case icons
2. Touch the Lips and Clock icon
3. Touch the top bar next to the pencil with the letter A
4. Touch the up arrow until you see American English*
5. Touch American English
6. Touch OK

The device should be in the selected text language.
*Note - If American English is not the language needed, please select the desired language.

B.If you need to change the voice language you need to change the voice:

1. Touch the Tool icon
2. Touch Locale
3. Touch Voice
4. Touch the Voice Language you would like to use
5. Touch 'Ok'
6. Touch and hold the Back button to return to the main "Where To" and "View Map" menu
   

At this time your device should speak in the language you have set in step 5.
C. It's possible you won't have an english language voice installed. IF not connect the satnav to your computer. Download the latest version of webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 and install it on your computer. After it's installed you will get an option to download new voices. Select an english, american or any a voice from any english speaking country. When it's installed go back to para B and repeat to get an english voice selected.

Since the language on the GPS receiver is not presently on English language, then you will have to follow these steps gradually:

Reboot your GPS, wait till it boots to the home screen., you will find an icon of a wrench at the button right side on the GPS screen.

Press this once and scroll through the menu, you will find message settings, select and and you will see English Language.

Though the menu is not be written in English, but you just and to watch closely, and when you get to the language settings, you will know.

How do I change language back english?

If you don't know foreing language displayed try follow that to change it to English:
- touch Tool icon
- touch upper left icon
- touch Down arrow 1 time
- touch upper ( of four) line

You'll find 3 buttons on the right Upper/Middle/Lower and 2 on the bottom

Depress Middle one, then using Up/Down arrows select *English and OK
