If you are playing media that has both dolby digital audio and dts audio, your player and your receiver will decode the first audio codec listed first by default unless you select it otherwise yourself. If your remote or receiver has an A.F.D. (auto format decode) button, press it until your display shows that the sound source is dolby digital or DTS, whichever sound mode it was you wanted when you started your DVD.

Everytime I use the DTS functions to enable my surround sound, no sound goes to my speakers. I am able to use it only for the standard output with the left and right front speakers. What could be causing...

DTS should be enabled only if your source has a DTS digital audio out connected to the receiver.Mostly only DVD / Bluray players have DTS sound and is outputted through an optical or co-axial port on the back of the player. Its a multichannel digital encryption technology where the signal is sent through one cable and your receiver decodes it into 5.1 or 7.1 channels according to the source.

When DVD uses DTS Sound, doesn't use 5.1

The bitstream sent out by the BluRay player is selectable via menus on thedisk. And the player itself may have a menu that allows it. Would need to know more about the source.

Yamaha HTR -6130 DTS?????

First, the sound source must also be in DTS. DTS is typically not the default audio selection on any DVDs that have that format...you'll have to select it.

I have a Yamaha HDR 6030 system and have hooked it up to a bluray player on a HD 1080p tv. Which of the sound setting (prologic, dts, dolby etc) is the best one to use for watching movies?

Each of the modes are true surround sound. Some are newer and may have advantages/disadvantages depending on personal preference. Prologic is the oldest of the listed, followed by dolby and dts. You can perform a google search to see the differences in dolby and dts but they should both be equally good. I prefer dts.
