Wet/dry vac left in the rain, now won't come on

We accidentally left the Dewalt DC500 Canister Wet/Dry vac out in the rain and now it doesn't come on at all. I was going to try taking it apart and using a blow dryer to dry the innards but after taking all the screws out of the housing, can't figure out how to get it apart. Also have seen reference to a fuse - where is it and how do I replace it?

SOURCE: DeWalt DC500 wet/dry vacuum

I had the same problem and traced it down to the on/off switch. I sprayed some electical contact cleaner down inside the switch and now it works normal. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: dewalt dc500 won't **** in water

there is a float ball or reed that closes off the exhaust port inside the canister, to prevent water from filling too high when used as awet vac. If lodged or trapped it will prevent suction or discharge in wet and dry modes. look at the housing that the filter attaches to and you will see it. if it doesnt rattle when you shake the unit up and down, it is stuck; otherwise, you must not be spinning the fan blades.

My Dewalt dc500 only works on AC power (plugged in to wall socket). When you put in the battery it doesn't work. Can anyone help?

Check battery contactor on the vacuum and on the battery. It is a common problem on this vacuum. Check for bent pins and corrosion.
