The power cord is hot but no lights or clock, nothing works.

First, I'm NOT a Farberware technician, But if this is the table top purculating and dispenser urn then it's pretty much work the same way as most free standing coffee pots work. (think 1950-60's coffee pots were all the rage).
* Electrical problem when not heating up. Check outlet/breaker if tripped out - Reset. Check plug on both ends, make sure it does not have a burnt smell or charcoal crumbly texture - replace. Check the coffee socket end where the female side of cord goes in, is it black or burnt? - dump pot. If power and cord okay but still no heat then element bad, high limit bad, broken wire(s), - Either way your pot is too old or badly damaged - Dump pot!
* For die hards and cheapo's (like me) then you will need a continuity meter to check across the UNPLUGGED cord to see if the element, limit fuse, wires, are all working properly. Yes there may be a switch in the urn but most of these are just plugged in to turn on and removed (to dump old coffee and wash) from power. Really, unless you have salvaged spare parts around,your better off just getting another brewer. Chances are if it's out of warranty then the urn is probably starting to rust and corrode. The element will be hard to remove and may leak when replaced as the seal(s) have to be replaced to. Count yourself lucky if it's the thermal fuse. The switch (if any) may be a simple rocker type or an illuminated push on push off type that will be harder to find and replace. The neon ready lamp (if any) are pretty standard and generics are common. (but a bad neon does not stop the pot from brewing) Thermal switches are a bit tougher to locate and replace as it needs to be set or preset to the right brew temperature.
* Final note; Worth the time to repair? Probably not. Don't let the boss catch you fixing it. (he probably borrowed it or got it free from the coffee vendor.) Good luck!

do you get any display?

Don't know the model but here are things to check prior to calling your vendor for service:
* Plugged in? No lights? Check if GFRI outlet is tripped out.
* Is it turned on and ready light lit? Some (CWTF's etc.) have a green or read ready lamp that lights up when the brewer is hot and ready to brew.
* No Ready light after 15-20 mins of being plugged in? Cheuck the back of unit for a toggle switch (or rocker switch). Check if it's on. Some units may say "Vacation". It should be on normal or brew.
* Brewing works but not hot. Was the ready light on when you started the brew? You have to wait till it's lit. Still not hot? Then call for service. The heater, High limit, Thermal fuse,Thermostat needs to be checked.
* If this is a new unit then be sure to turn on the thermostat as it comes from the MFR in the off position.
* Final, Call your vendor to be safe.

On programmable models CGX20/CGX23 & CGTX84/CGTX85 only
To Set the Clock:
1. Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. The clock will flash on the control panel to
indicate that the time has not been set yet.
2. Press and hold the HOUR and MINUTE buttons until you
reach the current time. The PM indicator will light on the left
of the display.
The clock is now set!
NOTE: Pressing any button before setting the clock will cause
the clock to start keeping time from 12:00 a.m. You must set
the clock if you want to use the Delay Brew feature.
To Set the Delay Brew Time:
After setting the clock, simply press and hold the SET DELAY
button (Figure 1), and set the brew time by pressing the HOUR
and MINUTE buttons. The PM indicator will light up on the
clock display.
The Delay Brew Time is now set!
NOTE: To activate the DELAY BREW cycle, see the “Brewing Coffee Later” section.
To check the programmed time, push the SET DELAY button. The display will show the time you have
programmed the coffee to brew.

This one has two AUTO dial settings - AUTO-ON and AUTO-OFF. AUTO-OFF merely keeps the hot plate warm for a fixed period of time. AUTO-ON is the one that allows your coffeemaker to go off at the pre-programmed time in the morning.

If it is set to AUTO-ON, but is not brewing at the set time, unplug the machine for longer than 20 minutes. Then plug it back in, reset the clock, reset the prog time for a time that is just a few minutes into the future, and then test the auto-on feature.

If it stil ldoes not brew, just turn the machine to brew and press on. If it brews a pot, then your problem is electrical. If it doesn't brew a pot on the regular brew setting, then you either have: A) Calcium buildup/clog, or B) a hose leak (or worse).

To rule out the calcium buildup possibility, let half a caraffe worth of vinegar sit in the water reservoir for about an hour. After the hour, turn it to brew and press on, and brew the vinegar just as if it were coffee. If the vinegar goes through, your problem is solved.

Otherwise, call Cuisinart and find out if you are still in-warranty. Thep roduct has a 3-year warranty.

Cuisinart replaced the coffee maker. It was still under the 3 year warranty so Cuisinart told me to take it back to one of the stores that sells Cuisinart coffee makers because the store I bought it at was going out of business.

These macines have an internal water heater that should be clened periodicly (monthly per manufacturers instructions but I do it quarterly/semianually/when it gets noisy :) ). The machine will have to be disasembled to do this since the tank will have to be flushed when you do this to get the chemicals out of it (vs running a pot of vinegar through your Mr. Coffee machine at home), Depending on how much scale has built up in the tank this could take several cleaninings. Scale deposits can over time impair/damage the heater or thermostat but replacement parts are cheaper than a new machine and the machine will outlast and outperform a standard coffee maker. BTW, my 8572 3 burner was built in 1972, I bought it at a flee market for $25 10 years ago put $100 in parts to get the push to brew and hot water on tap working again and it made two great pots of coffee this morning.

I just kept plugging and unplugging the coffee pot. Eventually, the clock stopped blinking, the buttons worked, and all was well.
