"The radio of your wireless adapter is not currently turned on. Please press the Cancel button and turn the adapter's radio on."
I press cancel.
I check the "Enable Radio" box in the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility.
I press "Apply."
I get the error -- "The Dell Wireless WLAN Card is still disabled. Slide the Wireless ON/OFF switch to enable it or press Fn-F2 to enable it."
Pressing FN-F2 does not fix the problem, and I don't think there is a manual switch.
Suggestions?
I had the exact same problem and went through the same steps that he did. It was only when I searched for a physical wireless switch (on the left side of my Dell D630) that the problem was solved. I didn't even know it was there and must have inadvertently knocked into the off position.
I was using the wireless network, disabled the radio and after reboot was unable to get it to save the enable click. After reviewing all software options listed here - checked wireless adapter setting in BIOS - it was turned off! Turned this on in BIOS and upon boot was able to access wireless network again. Hope this helps you.
Look on the right or left-hand side of the laptop, you'll see the switch. It's got the wireless symbol ((i)) next to it, and if you can see red next to the slider switch, it's OFF. Slide it the other way to ON and the red disappears. Problem solved, you won't get the error message again, and you should be able to connect to your wireless network. Most people don't even know about that switch until it slides to OFF by mistake, like while you're carrying the laptop around or something.
Or, if that doesn't solve it and you have an Inspiron 1545, try pressing the F2 key (without the Fn key) if it has what looks like the wireless symbol ((i)) on it. Normally you would hold down the Fn key at the same time to enable the "function" of the F2 key, but for some reason Dell reversed the function keys so that what WOULD have been Fn+F2 on older models is now just F2 on its own (without the Fn key).
For those with a manual switch, use the switch to enable the radio feature.
for others without the physical radio switch, first try fn+f2 or Ctrl+f2. If that doesn't work, re-install the device driver for the wireless cards and then try it (fn+f2 or Ctrl+f2)
I just read through the replies to this and looked on the left side front of my Dell Vostro 2510 and found a manual switch. This fixed my problem.
I had this problem; checked to see if Wireless was off in BIOS.
Nothing I did worked, including pushing the fn+f2 key. So I checked if the wirelesses was off in the BIOS. there is also a option for what the wireless switch will do; I picked the option for it to do noithing (think the actual option was "none)
Rebooted and bam, my radio was on!
According to the manual there is no hardware switch. This issue is either driver related or software related.
You can try going inot the Device manager:
1. Right click My Computer
2. Choose Manage
3. Select Device Manager
Then uninstall the WLAN device and reboot.

I am not sure about Dell Laptop. But in most of the laptops there is switch to enable/disable wireless. Please check your manual. (Mostly it should be on any of the four sides and not at the bottom of the laptop)

The green light is not on. FN + F2 does not make it turn on/off for me.
It is installed in device manager. It doesn't appear with an exclamation mark. I have taken the card out and put it back in. I have uninstalled and install with updated drivers. I think I need to replace the card...
There is a light above the keyboard, second from the right that shows green if the wireless is turned on. Holding FN+F2 does toggle the on. then off. DO you see a light go on them off when you use these keys? Have yoiu checked Device Manager to see if the WLAN has the driver installed? If it does not appear on the list, or appears with an exclamation mark,
