My computer does not recognize the player when I try to reinstall the firmware.

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2008

Same problem, firmware lost trying to upgrade, can't reload firmware because the upgrade software says the player isn't connected, even if it is. Creative just said buy a new player and sent me a list Fat chance I'll buy anything from them again. This was the second Creative player I've owed, and will be the last. The solutions posted are nice guesses but don't work. There's obviously a design flaw in the firmware/hardware/software on this unit.

My Creative Zen Touch is perpetually in recovery mode. PC only recognizes player as a 20 MB Mass Storage Device. I can't get any firmware to player. Shows version 0.0.10 on player screen. I've read all about the Firmware issues, and those associated w/ WMP 11. None of the solutions have worked.

my zen touch keep saying hardware problem. how can i fix it

  • Soliloquy Jun 11, 2008

I bought a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB for my brother a few years ago.
In 2007 he bought a Vista-preinstalled laptop which is his default
computer now. As we all know, the Zen Xtra does not play nice with
Vista unless you upgrade the firmware on an XP SP2 machine with Windows
    Media Player 10 or less.

    I have two problems:

Problem 1: Unfortunately he did not know that the software that came
with the Zen Xtra would install XP drivers that would render his Vista
laptop incapable of communicating with his Zen Xtra.

I need a clear description of what software and drivers to uninstall
from his Vista machine and exact steps on how to accomplish this before
I can install the proper Vista Creative tools from creative.com

    Problem 2:

    a) Upon plugging the Zen Xtra into our parents old PC with a clean
installation of XP SP2 and WMP 10, the Zen showed up fantastically in
Windows Explorer and Device manager. So far, so good.

    b) I downloaded the latest XP driver for the Zen Xtra and the latest firmware for the Zen.

    c) Driver worked great for Windows + Device Manager.

    d) Firmware upgrade refused to acknowledge that Zen Xtra was plugged in.

    e) Downloaded Creative software (see below links). Installations
request multiple reboots. In between each installation I tried the
firmware upgrade again. Each time I received the error message: "Your
player is not connected, please connect your player."

    Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 5.10.38

Creative ZEN and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer

Creative PlaysForSure Devices Plugin 5.00.36 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player/Organizer

    Creative ZENcast Organizer 2.01.01 Suite

    f) Finally after all of the above programs are installed, I received a
different message which I do not remember exactly but was something
like "Another program is interfering with the flash program. Please
close all background programs and try again." After letting this
message sit idle for a half an hour or so after I had closed every
process that I could think of it suddenly began the firmware
    installation process. I was AMAZED!

    g) Firmware installation process took the first step and did something
to the Zen Xtra. I don't know what. It then informed me that it would
reboot the player and the player did, in fact, reboot.

    h) After the player rebooted, the firmware upgrade program on the PC
never acknowledged that the player rebooted. I waited over two hours
for the program to give any kind of sign that it was making progress
but it never did. I was afraid to close the program or turn the power
off but I was tired of waiting so I finally shut down the process and
    rebooted the PC.

    i) After rebooting, I was never again able to get the firmware
installer to detect the Zen ever again. It has been over 30 hours now
and I am still getting the "Your player is not connected, please
    connect your player." error message.

    .....................................................................................

I will be testing the solution listed here and reporting the success or failure as the case may be.

Exact same issues - extremely frustrated.

  • Anonymous Jul 02, 2008

I have just experienced exactly the same problem - upgraded the firmware on my Creative Zen Touch only to have it start with 'Recover Mode' v0.0.10. Also, I have noticed that in the device manager is defines the unit as an MTP, but even though it has a usb 2.0 port, the usb hub no longer picks up the device?!

  • Tamara55 Jul 29, 2008

I am apparently having the same problems as a lot of other folks. When trying to sync a new CD to my MP3 Windows Media Player recommended I update my firmware. Went through all the steps with zero success.

Outside of buying a new player is there any hope I can update and use my player?

    Hi,

Same problems as everyone else I guess.

I got the 40 GB Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra about 4 years ago and it has been fantastic. But lately I've started ripping my old albums (Ion USB turntable) and purchasing/downloading MP3s from sites like eMusic and MP3 Fiesta. Suddenly my player starts giving "re-building library" message almost every time I turn it on, and of course it's kicking out those converted albums and purchased MP3s.

Started troubleshooting online and saw that I needed several upgrades (recommended at Creative website), including MediaSource and firmware. Read the cautions about "Plays For Sure" but had no choice - kept losing music. So I tried the firmware upgrade per Creative instructions, and it stalled aftewr 1 MP3 player reboot, and now it the computer doesn't recognize the player when it's connected, and the player is stuck in that Rescue Mode. Any help/advice? Thanks

  • williamSultz Aug 14, 2008

Wow, did something just get release that kills these players? Mine is having the EXACT same problems. Wont connect to the pc, being recognized as MTP device, firmware problem, 0.0.1.0, and tech support says just to buy a new one

I am so Fustrated. I love my zen xtra but I can't get it to work becasue of a firmware issue

  • bronxgirl44 Nov 28, 2008

I have two Creative Zen Nomad Zen Xtra's which were working fine, downloading, syncing all my MP3's up unti a few days ago. Now my PC won't show a connection. I've tried EVERYTHING I could think of: upgrades from Creative, changing my Windows Media Player from 10 to 11 and then back to 10 again. Why would they just all of a suddent quit on me like that? When I go into my add hardware and troubleshoot in the PC, it tells me nothing is wrong. Could somone help me out here?

every time i try to rebuild, the screen flashes firmware problem

  • senate732 Mar 09, 2009

I cannot get the firmware to recognize that the MP3 player is connected. The zen touch knows it is connected, the computer also knows. I've uninstalled the drivers on the computer but it doesn't work. It was working until my computer froze when it was loading the new firmware on the player. The firmware keeps saying device cannot be found or it is disconnnected. I haven't tried one suggestion I saw yet i hope it works. I have a friend that has this same player. I hope he still has it. I will try and connect his to get passed the screen then connect mine.

  • Anonymous Mar 28, 2009

interesting remarks and tips, but here is mine: me and my daughter have the same zen player, but my daughter has upgraded for the newest firmware and since that time she can not get a pc connection, whereby mine player works without any problem on the same pc... is it possible to make a new firmware upgrade on the non-working device from the removable memory card???

I had the same issue after trying to update firmware the PC kept saying the player was not connected, I have copied the reply below from Creative Customer Services on how I fixed this problem. I was lucky that I have access to an old PC that had WMP 10 so I didn't need to mess with my own PC. However, there was some messing about with the instructions to get the fix. My main tip is follow the instructions below, then go to device manager and uninstall the Zen from your USB list, it will probably be flagged with a yellow triangle. Remove it totally and then reinstall the Zen driver, this worked for me after I had taken the steps listed here;

1. Please uninstall all Creative software & Drivers.
2. If WMP 11 is installed, remove it including Media Player 11 runtime
(may require a reboot for each thing).
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall these two files (this will put
your pc back to wmp10). http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=16737

Related topic is further explained on this page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx#DevicenotrecognizedafterinstallingWindowsMediaPlay
3. Download the following files from the website and save them to a
unique folder.
http://support.creative.com/welcome.aspx
You may have to select your own Product > Choose your Specific Model>
then Double Click.
Down below; please ensure that your Operating System selected is Windows XP.

Driver : Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version 1.30.03
Firmware: Creative Zen Touch PlaysForSure Firmware 2.11.01
You may want to click the Show Details button on the right side for
additional information.

4. Re-install the Zen Driver and reboot the PC and then connect the
player.
5. Make sure the firmware update is ready,
Run the program but don't click the language bit yet), leave the mouse
hovering over your language selection.
6. On the Zen - select the option "reload OS"
7. As soon as it flashes up "reload new firmware now via USB" click the
language button on the firmware.
8. Now PC should find it and allow you to re-load the firmware. (it may
take a few attempts)
9. Once complete, click close and restart the pc. Everything should now
be fine.
10. If installation is successful, you can re-install your WMP11 and
everything should be okay this time.

Good luck

    Zen Touch Problem? Download this
    http://ccfiles.creative.com/manualdn/Dri...

  • krazykev101 Jul 10, 2011

Sorry I am making a restatement...I realized my firmware was still 1.0. and tht it coudnt b upgraded to 2.x.xx till media player 10 was installed and media player 11 removed.

before you do anything......back up all music on your zen touch because the upgrade to 2.0.xx deletes everything on your mp3 player and sometimes the player wont be readable after uninstalling .......then you can do an auto update:http://support.creative.com/downloads/we... from the manual downloads page, I did.. and there was numerous updates tht popped up after removing windows 11 media player and the other item that was required in the instructions located here:http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArtic... .

Hope this clears the air about upgrading the firmware to 2.0 so tht windows 7 can read your zen touch, sleek or other non supported creative-Tm hardware. I havnt finished upgrading yet because I Had so much on it that its taking me over 8 hours now just to sync my music with my computer so tht I wont lose the data when upgrading to firmware 2.x.xx

After 2 weeks of trying various computers and numerous posted “solutions”, this is what finally worked for me. I am not guaranteeing that you’ll have success.
In the recovery mode on the zen touch…
Cleaned all then reformatted
Found my wife’s old laptop that had no creative hardware or files on it. This computer was not running Microsoft® Windows Media® Player 10 or 11 but it did have an earlier version.
Downloaded the newest (plays for sure) firmware, from the creative.com site,http://support.creative.com/downloads/welcome.aspx?nDriverType=4&showdetails=1&bLatest=1 to the laptop. You need to download the latest firmware for it to work on a Win Xp computer.
Attached the zen to a USB 1 port. I don’t know if that made a difference. It was recognized as a MTP device.
On the laptop, I clicked on the firmware icon. A language window appeared. Put my cursor over English but didn’t click yet.
At that point- on the zen touch-clicked reload firmware.
When the zen touch prompted to begin reload, I immediately clicked on English.
That’s it. It worked. Good luck! Might work on other zens as well.

Finally,
I figured how to install your firmware if you are having problems updating to the new version. Follow these simple steps.

First right click My Computer from the Start Menu and go into Properties, select the Hardware tab and go to your Device Manager. If your mp3 device is already hooked up it may be listed as a usb 2.0 device or something else. If you have a yellow warning on any of you icons, select this icon by right clicking and select un-install. You now should see New Device Found Wizard. If not whenever you see New Device Found Wizard come on your computer. SELECT, LET me Choose My setting Selection at bottom. Then choose portable device when it ask to select hardware. Don't select have disk option it should show MTP player for a selection, then click next. When it ask if your sure if you want to install device click yes. Now it should be able to firmware update. HOPEFULLY I probably confused the s*&% out of most. hope I helped someone out there

I fixed mine basically goto the hard drive delete creative folder, downgrade mediaplayer 11 10, uninstall all the root hubs and uninstall the device driver unplug device and reboot. plug it in and it should let you install firmware

  • Anonymous Mar 04, 2008

the key thing that i was missing was actually deleting creatives folder that made all the difference

  • Anonymous Mar 06, 2008

We all had/have the same problem here. It is fixable you just have to follow the steps I listed. If you do all that and it doesn't fix it then let me know.

  • Anonymous Mar 06, 2008

i'll list the steps i took to get mine working again:

    Deleted the directory c:\program files\creative
Went to device manage removed ALL USB HUB ROOTS
With the device plugged in I went to device manager and uninstalled Zen then unplugged zen
Went to add remove programs and selected media player, from there I selected to fall back to media player 10
(Reboot whenever it askes you too)
    Reboot

After system is back up plug in the device and use the firmware upgrade program

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2008

Yeah my Zen Touch works fine with vista and media player 10. And if you have vista I understand why you wouldn't want to downgrade media player.

    That's why I didn't use this computer.

Okay I have the best and final solution:

Use another computer do not install any drivers do not plug in the zen downgrade wmp 10 which is extremely easy to do then plug in and put the firmware on.

Oh and make sure the computer you use, youve never used your zen in before. :)

This achieves basically the same thing I said above.

  • Anonymous Apr 25, 2008

Yeah, this solution worked for me several times and now nothing is working.

You should not have had to install anything for the Zen to work on Vista. If you have installed any Creative software, remove it. Reboot, plug your player in, open Device Manager, and remove the device that shows up representing your player (completely uninstall it). Reboot again, and plug in your player. It should be recognized now.

If that still doesn't work, then boot your player into Recovery Mode, and perform both a Disk Cleanup and a Reformat. Reboot the player and try plugging it in again.
if it still doesn't try another computer and upload the latest firmware to it and then try it on your pc after firmware is loaded

Ok, people pay attention here!!!

I want you to know that I have tried every single thing everywhere on the web and to no avail, but I chose to use my thinker and wolla! I have a working zen which btw was not being detected by the PC plus I had a Firmware Problem box flash up everytime I would boot, which btw only went to recovery mode.

Now I am convinced without a doubt, that if you follow my instructions you will be able to get your player detected and reflashed properly, as the firmware is on the hard disk it doesn't matter if it fails on update.

Ok, I'll tell you just what it took to fix this.

All you do is this:

Take out the HDD, install it to a ATA-5 (2.5", basically a laptop HDD caddy) IDE to USB HDD caddy which you can buy and return if you find one at futureshop like I did.

Connect it to the PC. If you can't find it in Windows Explorer on XP, right click My Computer and select Manage>Storage>Disk Management, it will ask you to convert the disk, it doesn't do anything, but click ok anyhow. Then create a primary partition, make sure to not set it as active. Make this just over 1GB and then format it as FAT not FAT32, next create an extended partition, but don't format it at all.

Now, put the HDD back into the player, make sure you do a proper reset, plug in the power adapter, push a pin into the small hole on the left bottom of the zen and hold down play/pause for 4 seconds or so. This is a proper reset, now you will be in recovery mode again, run Disk Cleanup, then run Format All, then reboot the player from the option in recovery mode.

Now connect the players usb to the PC, download and open up both firmwares incase it will only detect one of them. Now to get your PC to detect the player you will need to have windows media player 10 installed and to install firmwhere from what I gather. Try connecting even if you don't have WMP 10, but if you can't find it, then this would be the reason. If your on vista I don't know what to tell you as I don't use vista.

Now, that the firmware program is open, make sure you boot the player to recovery mode by repeating the same reset procedure, except you don't need the power adapter this time. Now select the Reload Firmware option on the recovery mode screen. It will ask you be4 it erases the current firmware you click ok or yes, and then it will say connect to PC and update firmware now. This is when you click update on your pc, if its still grayed out its probably because your player still isn't being detected. I did this twice and the firmware update failed. I realized that it failed simply because I ran the firmware application on the PC but didn't use the Zen option first, so follow these instructions and you should have a working Zen, purhaps your drive is still good and just needs a wipe. Just be sure to delete any partitions that may show on the disk in Disk Management before you create the FAT partion. Do not use FAT32 or NTFS as those won't work, and the only way to get FAT to show up as an option is to create the primary partition as 1gb.

I hope this helps you, let me know if you get your player working again.

if you are having a firmware problem or are stuck in recovery mode. I can assure you that nowhere else on the web will you find someone who can help you fix this problem, if its your PC try the other suggestions, but if you know its your player do what I did, there isn't a better way to fix the zen - this fixes all problems!!

BTW I am using Windows XP Pro, SP3, with WMP 10, Zen drivers ONLY, and all windows updates installed.

All I have to say is that I tried with wmp11 and wmp9 and nothing happened. But when I installed wmp10 and did the whole installation procedure again, everything worked fine. When you don't have the wmp10 installed, the driver is NOT installed correctly even if it seems to be OK. Finally if you do the firmware upgrade, you DON'T need any drivers in order to connect the ZEN to a PC running VISTA

Hi , to all having issues with "Firmware Problem " , i have 4 Creative Players ( 2 Vision M + 2 Touch )

I had 1 Vision M + 1 Touch displaying "Firmware Problem " on screen and always in Recovery Mode

Players would be found on PC , though WMP and Firmware Upgrade wouldn't detect them.
Spoke with Creative Tech support , tried many things.
I have had success ! It was simple little step that worked after much effort.
Now , i will say there is a story to get to the end point for me which i will detail , may find the difference of success or not in the detail .

I am not sure of what details that i explain was the crucial factor so i will tell all , bare with me !

I have to PC's , 1 run Vista and the other Windows XP.
I had success with Windows XP.

In the end the what i did after all below just before i given up and threw out players i tried 1 last time and in a different way that worked . I had always had the players connected before opening Firmware Upgrade process , i had the Upgrade on screen with no player detected so i decided to unplug problem player and plugged in working player to see if Upgrade would detect it , and it did !
So then i unplugged it and reattached problem player and Whaalah ! , it was detected , was then able to press Upgrade on Firmware tool and now perfect.

### My suggestion is to try this first , open Firmware Upgrade download , when it is on screen saying no player detected , attach your player and see if this works. I cannot say if the following steps are needed because i had already been through them before i did this. ####
( Windows Media Player must not be active )

I had downloaded MP3 Recovery Tool from Creative also the Firmware Upgrades for players individually. The recovery tool would detect Vision M though after it downloaded update it wouldn't be found when it tried to Upgrade.

On advise from Creative Tech Support , i made changes to Windows System Registery ( regedit ),
i then rolled back Windows Media Player 11 to WMP 10.

With regards to Registery instructions , i will not give steps to process incase i make a mistake , so i suggest going to Ceative Website and contact Tech Support then they can instruct .

After these steps i can only suggest with no certainty of success , this was all trail and error , so unsure of what is and isn't nessacary so i have detailed all.

Open Firmware Upgrade tool , have WMP off , when the tool is present on screen.
No player detected , plug player in , if this works a banner will appear displaying current Firmware and the Firmware that will replace it if needed , just the click Upgrade button the rest will be automatic.

To all out there with similar issues , i do hope this may help !
I hope i am clear to understand.
Frustratingly painfull process.

In WinXp SP3 I did have the same problem. I tried to upgrade to 2.11.01. The old firmware was deleted and Windows did not recognize the Zen Touch

My solution:

1. New installation WinXp Sp2
2. Installation Creative Media Source & Nomad Explorer
3. New installation Media Player 10.
4. In Device-Manager --> Hardware: Zen Touch is marked with "Question Mark". Selet this device with mouse pointer and click right button. Install device driver.
5. Now install ZenTouchP4S_PCFW_LB_2_11_01.exe.

There are good instructions here: http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?SID=16737 for rolling Windows Media Player back to v10 from v11.

Basically, you need to use a Windows XP machine with WMP version 10 on it to be able to run the firmware update for the Zen Touch. This firmware update, when complete, will make the Zen automatically compatible with Windows Vista. If you do not remove the THREE components of Windows Media Player 11 from your XP machine, though, the firmware upgrade will either fail part way through, or will fail to recognise your Zen touch, even though the driver appears to work for it.

Simple as.

If you're totally stuck, you can email me - [email protected]

SOURCE: Creative Zen Touch firmware problem

Before preceding, goto control panel, add/remove programs (vista equivalent) select windows media player and uninstall note the response it gives you. If it is going to allow you to uninstall OR downgrade windows media player to version 9 then keep going. If not, then find another computer that you've never used the player on try upgrading firmware there, make SURE it's got windows media player 9 by downgrading it in add/remove programs.

Now for the fun stuff:

Sounds like the same problem I've resolved several times in the past on here.

1. Plug in the device.
2. Goto device manager in control panel and remove the device drivers.
3. Reboot if it asks you to, make sure to unplug the device.
4. Goto device manager again, remove the USB hubs.
5. Don't reboot.
6. Goto control panel, add remove software or equivalent for windows vista ultimate.
7. Select creative labs, and uninstall any and every zen related software.
8. Don't reboot.
9. Goto my computer, find the creative directory located on your main hard drive at \program files\creative. Deleted it completely.
10. Select windows media player select uninstall, or downgrade accordingly.
11. Make sure your zen touch is not plugged in and reboot your system.
12. After system loads, plug in the device and run the firmware software again.

And if you wish, reinstall windows media player 10 and the creative software (which you don't need at all with vista) all the other drivers should reinstall themselves.

BTW it's a hell of alot easier to just use another CPU if you have access to one, I've done it both ways and it saves alot of time.

SOURCE: creative zen

After three months of trying and trying in many computers, following many, many procedures found all over the Internet, my Creative Nomad has accepted the firmware and has borned again.
What I did?
1. Connected the Nomad on a computer with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9, that never has been touched by a creaive device.
It recognizes the device but can´t find any update to the drivers,
2. Updated Windows Media Player 9 to Windows Media Player 10,
3. Restart the computer
4. Connect the Nomad and the computer recognizes the device and autamtically search and found updated MPT drivers.
5. Run the firmware update program "ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03 (Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03)"
6. Finally the magic button always has been disabled was enabled so start reloading firmware.
And now the Nomad is working in windows vista.

The difference between the computer where the firmware works and the others is that this has never had media player 10 or 11 and never has installed creative drivers.
Hope this can be useful to smoeone, somewhere, sometime.....

Creative zen touch firmware problem

Sorry I am making a restatement...I realized my firmware was still 1.0. and tht it coudnt b upgraded to 2.x.xx till media player 10 was installed and media player 11 removed.before you do anything......back up all music on your zen touch because the upgrade to 2.0.xx deletes everything on your mp3 player and sometimes the player wont be readable after uninstalling .......then you can do an auto update: http://support.creative.com/downloads/welcome.aspx?nDriverType=1#Manualselection from the manual downloads page, I did.. and there was numerous updates tht popped up after removing windows 11 media player and the other item that was required in the instructions located here: http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=16737 .

Upgrade firmware problem zen touch 20 gB

I contacted Creative about a similar problem with mine when I went onto Vista and they advised that I had to update the firmware. The downside they stated was that I would probably lose all my songs. The only way round this is to save them all to a non vista computer and then upgrade and hope you can put them back onto your player. Here is the info they sent me. Not sure if it works as I never got round to it.

I understand that you cannot get the software to work in your Windows
Vista.
With regards to your enquiry, there are two things that you need to
consider, player and the software.

For a proper set up, you should update the player with an MTP Firmware
version using a PC with Windows XP installed.
What is the MTP Firmware?
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=6773

Ensure that computer has both Service Pack 2 and Windows Media Player
10.
a. Verify SP version, click+Start+Run+type Winver.

Next, update the driver first, once it has been installed, connect the
player then click the MTP firmware program.

Proceed to this link and download the following files needed.
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/
just click on the link above then type the filename of the
driver version : JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US_2_01_00.EXE
firmware version : ZenTouchP4S_PCFW_LB_2_11_01.exe
at the search box provided.
download and save them to your folder. Click the program and follow
further instructions during the installation.

For instruction on updating the firmware, please use the link below and
select ZENTouch
http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=4789

As for the software, you maybe required to download and install the
following updates below:
Please view important notes written at the website for further
information.

Proceed to this link http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/
then type the filenames: CMS5_PCAPP_LB_5_10_38.exe

CMS5_MTP_PCAPP_LB_5_00_36.exe

at the search box provided. Ensure device is attached before you start
the installation.

Sorry it's so long winded and I hope it works.

Creative zen mp3 help please

You will need to put the Zen into recovery mode and erase the firmware, then reload the firmware. Follow these steps:

To Erase the Firmware:

1. Get a paperclip and straighten it out.

2. Hold down the Play/Pause button, and put the paperclip through the reset hole. Release the paperclip while continuing to press the Play/Pause button until you see the screen change.

3. Select "Reload Firmware."

To Load the new Firmware:

Go to www.Creative.com/support --> downloads. Click through the navigation and download the latest Zen Touch firmware. Reboot your computer, then plug in your Zen via USB cable. Double-click the firmware icon and then click upgrade.

Creative ZEN MICRO

OK to everyone who messed up the firmware of Zen Micro and run vista, u r all idiots, including me. my zen was stuck in recovery mode and recovery menu as everyone experienced and tried to upgrade the firmware via the firmware updater that didnt work, right? ok through research and time i came to realize that what was causing the updater to fail (...please connect your media player...) is windows media player 11 (ELEVEN !!) zen update firmware will work only with windows media player 10 (TEN !!) installed. y? i dont know and i dont care anymore now that my micro is fixed up and running with the latest released firmware.
method 1:
u can find smne with xp and wmp10 (rare) install drivers and run the updater or
method 2:
u can DIY and since it is impossible to uninstall wmp11 i did the unthinkable, no no not format and install xp to use wmp10 no no.

instead i used a program called VIRTUAL MACHINE WORKSTATION 6.5 (for links keep confidential suppling ur email to me) this program will allow u to install and run several operating systems at a time regardless of your current hardware, it will run as an application in vista O/S. so i installed xp pro (on vmware 6.5) that i had handy somewhere, and then the drivers from the creative disc. then i run the firmware updater and yes it recognises my zen for the first time and loads a brand new firmware. easy as that, zen reboots and main menu appears, what a joy.

so all i used was:
vmware 6.5
xp pro (wmp10)
creative disc
firmware updater by creative

installing operating systems on vmware is very easy and doesnt require restarts etc.. u can switch through vista and xp like a window application just like that.

hope this helps, zen micro is by far the ultimate mp3 player for its sound breathtaking performance and loudness, totally worth the trouble. this is 100% fixable

Creative Zen Touch firmware problem

This means both systems contain a bug, or cookie. If the firmware you accessed isn't applying itself to the device, this means the system itself has been corrupted. Double check with your system configuration properties on each device, and tell me whats going on from there.

Don't panic!
