Posted on Dec 11, 2009

Docking station Just got hired with a company as a virtual employee. They sent me a Dell Latitude E6400 computer and a docking station. I have never used a docking station. So, two questions....... 1. Does the docking station need a power supply? It did not come with one. 2. I don't have a manual do you have a link so that I can download a manual?

Typically if it's a complete docking station, it uses your laptop power supply and provides power to your laptop and itself at the same time.

http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/latit/en/laptop_latitude_efamily_docking_accessories_brochure.pdf'

according to that brochure the dock is the E series.. and doesnt come with a manual

My Dell E172FPi monitor doesnt show when I try to extend to another display. My laptop is a Latitude E6410. How do I add this monitor?

Connect the monitor to the laptop. Use a standard VGA-to-VGA cable. Plug one end of the VGA into the VGA-out port on the left side of the laptop. Connect the other end of the cable to the VGA port on the rear of the monitor.
Turn the computer on. When it boots up try using the "F" keys along the top row of the computer keyboard. One of the F keys should extend the desktop to your monitor. (Other F keys may move the entire display to the monitor or make all displays go dark.)

Dell Latitude E6410 : Mouse & ext. Keyboard lost when putting back into dockin station

I am assuming that you mean the USB on the docking station is not detecting your mouse and keyboard, please can you open your device manager and have a look for the docking station in the list, if you see it in the list but is has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark showing next to the docking station, if this is the case right click on the line and remove this from the list, and then get device manager to refresh, this will reinstall the driver and should get the docking station working again.

I connect docking station and enabled docking hardware profile, after that when i boot no display Model Dell Latitude D 630

I believe your docking station profile is corrupted.....I suggest you to remove the existing one and allow system to recreate a new one by rebooting the computer.
1. Open System in Control Panel.
2. On the Hardware tab, click Hardware Profiles.
3. Under Available hardware profiles, Select Profile 1 (Current), and then click Delete.

Reboot the computer and test. It should work.

If that fails then you may want to try with different docking station.

Dell latitude D410 wont boot up when hooked to docking station can not use keyboard or mouse

Sounds like a compatibility issue between your Dell and the Docking station. I would say make sure the software for your docking station is installed properly, and update the software before connecting again.

Try updating to BIOS to version A16 from http://support.dell.com Ensure you are not attached to the docking station when flashing the BIOS. Once updated, connect the 90W adapter to the docking station, connect your laptop to the dock, and power on using the docking station power button.

Docking station trouble

You will need to dock the closed laptop first, then use the power button on the dock to turn it on. This will result in the output to the monitor. Alternatively, if you have the laptop open, you can toggle between the laptop LCD and external monitor (or both) by holding the blue Fn key (on the laptop keyboard) and pressing F5.
