No sound at all on my phone (not on silent)

Got my phone a week back, tried out some of the preloaded "mp3s" from the Sony Ericsson artist and they worked fine.

I figured I was just away most of the time when the phone received messages and didn't take notice that it was set to ring and was not just silently vibrating.

Is there a solution or do I take it back to the store?

Also, is the little light on the top of phone meant to flash green constantly when it's not charging (when it is a solid green)?

Update: Sound works fine through handsfree earpiece and also noticed that on full volume music can be FAINTLY heard from the rear speaker but removing the battery, earpiece, sim etc does nothing.

I've had my phone for close on 2 yrs now so I know it quite well. Simple (and obvious) way to test if the phone rings is to ring it from a land line and listen out for the ring tone. Maybe you are not clearly hearing the ring tone from all the other noise around you- try some other ring tones that have varying notes. I downloaded some of songs I like. I found that makes it easier to hear. Don't go for rap music- I found that was the most difficult to hear. I've managed to transfer an mp3 song from my computer onto my phone and use it as a ringtone.

Another way to test the speakers is to play some music through the "entertainment" menu. That way you can test to see if the volume adjustment is working well. If you can only hear the music faintly (as well as all other sounds), then there is probably something wrong with the speaker.

Yes, mine has a green light that flashes occasionally. I think that is the phone checking the signal.

My sony ericsson cellphone is on silent mode and i cannot get it off, call still come in, i just cant hear the phone ringing

What model of Ericsson do you have? The Ericsson lineup by Sony comes in many flavours, each with its own unique layout and design. Generally there is either a setting in the settings menu for silent mode or vibrate, or in some cases a specific button on the phone will do the trick. If your phone has a keypad try holding the "#" key for a few seconds, I know some phones use this button as a switch to quickly turn silent on or off.

Ringer is marked as off on my blackberry bold 9700 and i have no sound

Hi,Sound profiles define how your BlackBerry device alerts you of phone calls, messages, reminders, and browser content.

Your device has a Normal sound profile and six other preloaded sound profiles: Loud, Medium, Vibrate Only, Silent, Phone Calls Only, and All Alerts Off.

By default, some of the settings in the preloaded sound profiles are based on the settings in the Normal sound profile. For example, when you change the ring tone in the Normal sound profile, the ring tone in the Loud, Medium, and Phone Calls Only sound profiles is automatically updated. If you do not want specific settings for a preloaded sound profile to update automatically when you change the corresponding setting in the Normal profile, you can manually change the settings in that preloaded sound profile.

You can create custom sound profiles. When you assign a custom ring tone to a contact, the ring tone is always active and does not change when you switch sound profiles unless you switch to the All Alerts Off sound profile. Call and message notifications for your contacts might be audible even if you switch your sound profile to Silent or Vibrate Only.

You can change, rename, and delete most preloaded sound profiles. You cannot delete the Vibrate Only sound profile and you cannot change, rename or delete the All Alerts Off sound profiles. You can change the Normal sound profile, but you cannot rename or delete it because some of the settings in the other preloaded sound profiles are based on the settings in the Normal sound profile.

Change a sound profile

If you change a setting in a preloaded sound profile that is based on the Normal sound profile, that change will override the corresponding Normal sound profile setting in the preloaded sound profile.

1. On the Home screen, click the Sounds icon.
2. Perform one of the following actions:
* To change the active sound profile, click Set Ring Tones/Alerts.
* To change a custom or preloaded sound profile, click Edit Profiles. Click a profile.
3. Click the application or item that you want to change.
4. Change the notification information.
5. Press the Menu key.
6. Click Save.
7. Press the Menu key.
8. Click Save.

Hope that helped...

If your player is working, and you already setup menu/settings/sounds&alerts/ring volume 5-8, and silent off you should use your warranty for that phone. That is the problem with most se w890i.
