Flash Does not work in my canon sd1000, just shows me the orange light, it goes solid and pictures comes dark (batery is fully charged).thanks.
This happened to my SD1000 and I followed the step by step instructions shown here:
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Replacing+Canon+PowerShot+SD1000+Broken+Flash+Unit/7778/1
and when I got to step 15, I found that the small plug that connects the flash to the camera body had been disconnected when the camera had been dropped. I simply pressed the connection back in tight and reassembled the camera - and it works. Maybe this happened to yours too??

New batteries are $5 on any auction website. If that's not it, the flash isn't worth the cost to fix if the camera is not under warranty.

The flash does not charge separate from the rest of the camera. Try cleaning the flash sensor on the front of the camera or the flash led may be bad.
Secondly, this light functions as a flash sensor which is trying to tell you that you need to use a flash although you may have the flash manually turned off. looks like a bolt of lightning with a circle/slash through it.

What you have here on your SD1000 is just a power problem. It happens sometimes on digital cameras. It's unfortunate, but these things do happen. You would need to get the camera fixed which is a good idea considering what a great little camera that is. The site that I'd go to for help with a Canon Powershot would be www.camerasandparts.com The only thing they fix is the Canon Powershot Cameras and they happen to be excellent for service on these. The deal with them, and this is right on their site for your model, they perform the repair with both parts and labor included, you get all of the service for your model included, they give you a great 90 day warranty on anything on your camera for 90 days, and they include priority shipping going back. For your model that all runs $79. They're the place for help with the Powershot Cameras, your problem and service package is available on their site. I hope that will help you with it.
