I had the same problem and was about to change the walking belt. Instead I removed the 5 screws holding on the hood and adjusted the Reed Switch and took a walk. Whenever I stomped on the belt hard it would stop. I Could now see (because I removed the hood) that the motor continued to spin and the Motor Drive Belt was slipping and was the culprit. Something that I had noticed before was all this fine rubber dust coming out near the left front corner where this belt is. If you see that it's a good indicator the motor belt is slipping and needs to be replaced.

I have a proform 550e, starts up fine runs well for a few minutes, then belt stops. Motor keeps running. I step off the belt, belt starts to run again.

check adjust belt tension
may have to clean under belt area as there could be a build up that is stopping the free movement of the belt as it gets hot

The belt slips when you are on the treadmill

check the front and rear rollers. One of them should have adjustment bolts on both sides. Adjust both bolts equal turns to tighten belt a bit at a time until the slippage stops. tighten one side or the other to align the belt as well.

hope this helps

I need to tighten the belt, it keeps slipping while walking on it

Unplug unit then remove motor shroud then do the following: If the problem is in the drive belt, either the drive belt will stop when stalled or the front roller will stop when stalled. If the motor, drive belt, and front roller continue to turn when the walking belt is stalled, the problem is with the walking belt slipping on the front roller. If the drive belt continues to turn but the front roller stalls, you may have a broken front roller pulley.

1) Adjusting the running belt if the problem: If the walking belt slips when walked on, UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the hex key, turn both idler roller bolts clockwise, 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened, you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in. off the walking platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Then, plug in the power cord, insert the key, and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.
2) Adjusting Drive belt: Find the motor mounts. Many motors in Icon treadmills have a main pivot joint in which a bolt runs the full length of the motor mount. This bolt will require loosening to provide maximum adjustability. Some models have a single jack bolt and others have an auto tensioner. Single jack bolts are the easiest to adjust.

I got my ProForm 860 treadmill and the previous owner said it shuts off after 1.5 miles (overheats). The company said its due to friction. How do I know what is causing the friction. Loose belt, worn belt,...

Be sure there is no damage to the walk board itself before replacing the belt. You may want to try lubricating the board before replacing the belt.(silicone spray from any hardware store) This is also caused by overtightening of the drive belt and/or walk belt. Good Luck, Tim

Belt is slipping

your macnine needs some maintenance. slippage on the proform is usually due to a worn out front roller and a worn motor driving the belt. both can be replaced. or you may want to find a good used one as many get no use before the optomististic owner decides to sell.
