I had the same problem and was about to change the walking belt. Instead I removed the 5 screws holding on the hood and adjusted the Reed Switch and took a walk. Whenever I stomped on the belt hard it would stop. I Could now see (because I removed the hood) that the motor continued to spin and the Motor Drive Belt was slipping and was the culprit. Something that I had noticed before was all this fine rubber dust coming out near the left front corner where this belt is. If you see that it's a good indicator the motor belt is slipping and needs to be replaced.
