Hello John,
The following video shows how to take these models apart.
The one he is doing is the 1000i but it is very similar to your 2000i generator! It should help you immensely in the disassembly of the unit in question
The recoil assembly can be purchased for about roughly $26.00.You could also replace the cord itself for a whole lot less than that if you have the know how!
The pull cord is like a starter on a car (separate
from the motor/engine). If the pull cord will not turn it could be because the
motor/engine is seized.
1. Fuel selector: ON
2. Start run sw: ON
3. Oil Level : Full
4. Choke selector FULL ON for no more than 2 pulls initially The half choke then off
5. Spark at the Spark Plug YES? NO?
a. No spark suspect low oil level sensor is grounding the ignition either due to low oil level or it just is not working properly.
After doing all of the above...
Spark Plug WET or DRY? Dry and still won't start check fuel supply. If you use the choke with the start run switch in the off position the spark plug should get WET. Spark plug does not get wet... with choke on and ignition off. Fuel supply problem.
At this point I suspect either the Oil Level is incorrect or... that the FUEL SELECTOR is OFF.
If you need more help just respond here and we can press on.
starving for fuel. the generator will always rev up when it is under a load or about to run out of gas. there will be a few adjustment screws on the carb... one for air and one for fuel. try increasing the fuel a quarter turn and see how that does
