Something to make soft solder blend in more to gold color jewelry

I soft solder a lot of gold (plated)/yellow colored things and silver spot that regular solder leaves does not look good. Is there something that will make the silver spot less noticeable or blend in more or a yellow soft solder.

Was looking for a patina - used in stained glass - this is what others suggest...

"I use gold leaf paint at my solder points in a stained glass piece to make it look like brass. Have repaired many pieces and used the gold leaf paint and works very well. I think the paint works better than the gold pen."

Gold'ish color at least - hope this helps... Dan

What to look for while purchasing the authentic silver jewelry for myself?

Higher quality silver jewelry is stamped with the number ".925". I believe it is law now if the item is said to be sterling. The meaning is that the content of the silver is 92.5% with 7.5% as a base metal. The total representing 100% of the piece. Pure silver(100%) would be too soft for jewelry and would deform even during normal wear. So the base metal is tin or other inert material to lend strength. Look for items that say "lead free" as this was used as a base metal at one time. Hope this helps.

Can a ring made of 18k gold over silver be re-sized?

In the past, rings that were plated silver or plated gold couldn't be resized. However, in 2010 JCPenney started resizing rings that are plated gold or plated silver. Since it's been four years that JCPenney started this service, I'm sure other stores and jewelers offer the service too. I do believe they can resize rings by two sizes.

Laurie, the answer is simple you are going to have to use sterling silver wire to make your jewelry, this will eliminate the problem, and it is literally just a few cents more per piece.Silver wire is sold by weight, most silver rings i make weigh less than 10g,when you make jewelry that does not weigh much always opt for quality materials. This will ensure something you are proud of and your customers will appreciate. I run lazer welding macines that lazerweld gold

You should know every trick in the book, not every body runs wire welding machines or even knows what one does. There are a bunch of things that will color wire, but you might not get the color off. Ferric Chloride, steel ink, liver something? I know the steel ink will come off, the ferric chloride might not, also a potent acid. Used in copper etching. And the liver ? I can't remember what it is called, but it is used to patina silver jewelry. Hope this helps.
