My LG RH177 does not read and write DVD-R anymore. DVD+R disks work well at the moment. Any idea? Thank you.

Hi,
There are three things you can do that will eventually give you a working solution. Depending on the level of problem. Start with 1 progress to 3 until it works.
1. Use a cleaning disc. (one that use an alcohol based liquid)
2. If the cleaning disc does not solve it, you can use an ear bud, with some iso-propyl alcohol to clean the DVD lens on the drive directly. (you have to open the player and the drive)
3. The guaranteed working solution is to replace the DVD drive inside the player. This is quite a simple process, as most players use a standard IDE DVD-ROM or DVD writer.
You simply remove the face plate, (apply power to the drive, and press eject first) the tray will open. Unclip the tray face, and then with the tray open you can unclip the plastic face plate too.
Remove the old drive, and fit the new drive by reversing the removal procedure.
Once everything is assembled you should be able to watch DVD's again. If you can't find a cheap DVD drive locally, try ebay.
I have done this on over 50 players for my clients in the past. I use LG DVD roms and DVD writers for the DVD recorders, irrespective of brand.
Let me know how it goes.

Dvd's won't come out of player

Try unplugging the dvd player, wait a few moments then plug it back in and hit the eject button, sometimes that works.

I have a LG external hdd hxd5 500gb, it was working fine and was never dropped, now the PC does not pick up the drive and can not see it in device manager. Its making a scratch like sound, if gears are...

That sound is made by the platters of the disk rubbing on the reading heads - the hard disk is dead , it has destroyed itself. All the data is lost.
Sorry, there is absolutely nothing you or anyone can do about that.

LG RH177 - Cannot read discs....

Well, to solve the problem quick, I actually called in the service guy. Over here, LG comes to the door, but at an extra $40 bucks excluding parts. What I realise is that the drive is very easy to install, so could have just bought the part and installed myself, saving the $40.
With a DVD drive, it is hard to pinpoint the problem. And it being so cheap (old tech/over supply), most service centres would just replace the whole thing.

Dubbing from HDD to DVD disc

I beleive you can only dub from hdd to disk,
Try formatting the disk first.

Lg rh177

Could be the dvd player/lens. The player sucks up dust through the
player's caddy and after a while it won't read discs anymore.
A cd cleaner or a good (gently dosed) blow with compressed air might help.
