SOURCE: Burnt out my boss BR 1180. How do I repair?

I'm not sure which entry will get to you, so... The likely defective part is the voltage regulator. This should be fixble by any shop that handles audio gear. No special test equipment or parts are required. The regulator circuit should be fairly standard and simple. Where are you located so I can recommend a shop? Dan

SOURCE: I connected an RC20 to a 16 volt/800milli supply & blew it.

It would be helpful if you told us what type supply you connected to the unit.

These normally run off a 9 volt DC supply. Likely you wiped out the input regulator chip and maybe a diode and capacitor.

It is definetly worth repairing.

If you open it up the damaged parts MAY be obvious. There may be a couple which do not show the damage.

Why are there only two dots when I power on?

1. Make sure that you have the correct power supply plugged in.
2. If you are using the BOSS power supply, it could be defective. Measure the voltage it is producing and make sure it is correct.
3. If the voltage is correct, then the problem is inside the unit, and it will need servicing.

BOSS TU-3 Tuner will not work with power supply or battery

It was probably connected backwards in polarity from a power supply which burnt a diode. These things have backwards polarity of 9v adapters which means positive on the outside of the plug and ground in the middle, unless you have the original boss power supply. If you have a generic power supply, cut the plug off and switch the wires and try it.

It just wont turn on, and i'v tried other power supplies that deffinately work and it still wont. help!

Use the correct PSC power adapter. 9 volts, 1 amp... not sure of the polarity... searched all over for the spec. The unit draws 900ma so you need a 1 amp supply. Most "universal" supplies will not provide enough current. If you have tried the wrong polarity you may have damaged the unit.

My Boss RC-50 has stopped working. I used the power chord for my RC 50 in my Boss OC 3 pedal and then tried using the chord in my RC 50 again and it won't work. It won't even work with other power...

CHeck the voltage out of the adapter. It should be around 9 to 11 volts. If it is not, it is possible that the OC3 has reversed polarity AND a protector that put a short on an incorrect supply. If so, it could have damaged the RC50 adapter. If the RC50 adapter is putting out correct voltage, then I suspect the inout connector on the RC50 may be damaged or not quite seated. Visually inspect the connector first.

I plugged in a wrong adapter to MT-2 i think 12 v. it should have been 9v now it doesnt work is there any way to fix this problem?

Normally the 12 volt supply would NOT damage the unit UNLESS it had the wrong polarity or was an AC type.

Likely damage if these were used is confined to a few small electronic components where the power copmes into the unit.

Repair the unit before putting correct supply as you could damage the correct supply if those parts failed a certain way.

Pedal works with power supply but nor with a brand new battery

The problem is with a bad power connector.

The connector has a spring tab that touches the center pin when the external power is NOT plugged in. This tab brings the battery power to the center pin. Some of the springs as an alternative act as a switch to a contact for the negative lead of the battery. These suffer the same problem of loss of spring tension and failure to contact.

The spring gets weak and no longer touches and battery power will not work.

I think the ac power supply i used may have been the wrong polaity, hence my zoom g2 is not working from mains or battery. is there an internal fuse that could have blown? if so is it readily repairable

If I remember correctly, these units are diode protected. You have smoked that part and it needs to be replaced. This is not a user repair as access is not easy. This is a simple repair for an experienced tech. Expect a parts cost in the $2 range.
