I want to connect to my DSL but my emachine

I want to connect to my DSL but my pc keeps looking for dial-up or broadband. I haven't called my provider, AT&T U-verse, for the ISP name and password until I'm sure that my pc is looking for the proper network.

First, go to control panel, click the icon "network connections" you most likely will see setups that exist for dial up.

Make sure your DSL drivers and box are fucntioning properly, then delete the existing connections, Your install disc for your DSL should set things up nicely, after that, create a new network connection, and DON"T, repeat DON'T choose the dialling options, follow the prompts, you will see all the right questions to answer, like "never dial a connection", which is what your PC has been told to do previously.

It will happen so fast, you will wonder what you did.

IPAQ Internet Appliance

You inquire on your nearest Internet Service Provider (ISP) for a DSL plan. DSL provides a bandwidth 3 to 4 times of the dial up.

Getting online

The phone jack on your laptop is used for Dial-up only, i.e.… AOL, EarthLink, etc….
If you’re trying to connect to the internet via Verizon DSL, then you need to connect to a DSL modem just like your PC is. On your laptop you’ll find another jack similar to a phone jack but a little bit wider. This is a 10/100 Base T connection used for Broadband or Hi-speed internet that you will use to connect to your DSL. If you want, you can take the internet cable from the back of your PC and try plugging it in to your laptop. You will need to power OFF and ON the DSL modem you that it will search for the IP (internet protocol) address of your laptop.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please contact me.

Wireless Connection

You didn't specify if you're using DSL or Cable internet.

With DSL, keep in mind the software on the PC is what "dials out" to the ISP with your name / password, and you MUST set the name and password in the router. Otherwise, ONLY the computer1.gif that has the software installed (verizon1.gif, etc) will be able to connect.

If you're using a cable connection, you don't have to do this, however, most newer Linksys routers come with a 'setup' disk, which MUST be used regardless of connection type.
