Seagate Freeagent 1.5TB hard drive beeping

I would say if it was spinning when it dropped, you are probably out of luck. There are services available for platter recovery, but they are quite expensive. Practice the 3 backup policy.

See if Testdisk sees the drive and if so try restore or create a boot sector

the beeping sound is the post system searching for your hard drive and other connected devices
try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive

ok here goes, my neighbour has the Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB, and in under 2 weeks it started to beep and was not reconized by any Laptop or P.C. if this is the same for you with any FreeAgent Desk series ( not GO series, different procedure for GO products). your drive is already defective. if you have important files in there, you cannot retrieve it.

Connect the 320GB HDD before switching ON the laptop and try to repair using scandisk option to repair the drive. Also use chkdsk /f option in command line mode.

Revert back for more assistance.

you say its beeping? like an error code sequence? i would search the intnet for seagate error codes and try to match the code with the problem. or call tech support.
