Cleaning How can I clean the document glass on my scanner from the inner (down) side, it looks like a little smoke or dust are there. How can I open it?

Pink vertical lines on scanned documents can be is easily fixed by opening the paper feeder. To do this, open document lid, then lift feederup for about 45 degrees, then clean the narrow glass directly under the scanner. You can use a flash light to look at the position that causes the line to appear so you can identify the problem.
Dust or tiny pieces of paper may be left behind once in a while while sheets are fed into the scanner. Clean it using a damp microfiber cloth. Smeared glass, can be cleaned using rubbing alcohol on cloth. You can also vacuum the paperfeeder tray to lessen dust in the scanner opening.

First you need to carefully clean the copier optics: Open document glass, use clean, dry and soft cloth to wipe the small mirrors on the scanner. Clean also the fluorescent lamp carefully not to break it. Wipe the document glass both inner and outer sides then securely screw it back. Remove the drum unit and wipe clean the underneath mirror on the laser unit then test the copy quality.

If the line occurs when running documents through the document feeder and not when placing your document on the glass the problem is a dirty "**** glass". Open the document feeder and look for a thin glass that probably has white out on it. Carefully remove the whiteout with your fingernail or with a damp cloth. Good luck.

The inner side of the Document Cover (white sheet) (C) is easily damaged, so wipe it gently.

If the glass of the ADF (A) is stained with ink, correction fluid, or the like, black streaks may appear on the printed paper when the document is loaded in the ADF. With a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the glass of the ADF.

With a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the Platen Glass (D), the inner side of the Document Cover (white sheet) (C), the glass of the ADF (A), and the inner side of the ADF (white area) (B) gently. Make sure not to leave any residue, especially on the Platen Glass.


Cleaning the ADF Caution
Be sure to turn off the power and disconnect the power cord before cleaning the machine.

1. Open the Document Tray.


2. Open the Feeder Cover.


3. With a soft, clean, lint-free and dry cloth, wipe off any paper dust from the inside of the Feeder Cover (A).


4. After wiping, close the Feeder Cover by pushing it until it clicks into place.

5. Close the Document Tray.

6. Reconnect the power cord then turn on the machine.

When using the ADF to scan multiple document the scanner assembly stay stationary and the paper is fed across it. Where the scanner parks for this there is something between the scanner and the document, likely on the glass. Often there is a small strip of glass on one end of the scanner bed. Clean here if there is one, otherwise look around and I'm sure you'll find it. Remember, never spray cleaning solutions directly onto the glass, always onto a cloth or towel first. The scanner has a calibration strip that can be damaged otherwise.

Generally you should not have to clean the underside of the glass unless you are in a high dust environment. This would require disassembly of most of the printer itself. The glass is held in by double-sided tape or a bead of glue, so don't try to remove the glass sheet itself.

The easy part is the beginning, removing the scanner cover. Next you will have to locate screws around the outside and start taking panels off. Keep note of the panels and the screws. After the side panels are off, there should be a set of screws around the scanner itself that hold the scanner and plastic casing with the scanner glass. Once those are removed, the scanner glass with its frame should be able to be removed. From there you can use whatever you would like for glass cleaning, make sure it is streak free.

Older scanners make this easier. Most of them are 4-6 screws and the top half pops off and can be easily cleaned. A multifunction isn't so fun in this sense.

okay it sounds like you have something wrong with the scanner which could be one of a few things.start by really looking close at the black stripe you need to make a copy of something with text across the entire black stripe. try both laying a sheet on the glass and throught the document feeder. what you are looking to see is if it's still able to scan the text and just is very dark in that area or if it's solid black with no text being exposed. one means that either your scanner is being blocked in that area due to dirt, white-out, smudges on glass, dust etc. the later being a diffective scanner.. I would clean glass paying close attention to the 1 " **** glass on the left that's what the machine uses to scanning with the document feeder. if you haven't solved it yet and you Must then lift the document feeder open, be sure machine is off. remove 5-6 screws securing the 2 guide plates for the glass, before doing so notice there is a gap between the two peices. the **** glass is for using the document feeder the other is orginal glass, they are two pieces so be careful when lifting the glass and clean both sides, then while you have the glass out, very gently hold the shiny mirrors just below and very gently slide to the left, there are 3 mirrors that may need to be cleaned using glass cleaner on very soft cloth, doing this ever so gently.

If this only happens when you are copying.

1. Your scanner glass is dirty. Open the lid, use windex to clean the flatbed. Look on the left side. You should see a strip of glass, with the scanner sitting under it. This strip is used when the document feed is being used. Make sure it is clean. Most common problem is getting a little whiteout or the sticky residue from scotch tape on this glass, which causes lines down your copies.

Clean it with alcohol which will dissolve the sticky stuff and the whiteout.

If this does not solve the problem, the CCD scanner in your machine might be going bad.
