it looks like it is wide screen but there is not a way to manipulate the screen.

  • Anonymous Sep 21, 2008

Screen looks as if it is in "zoom" mode, cutting off portions of the picture.

  • hilltopchiro Dec 28, 2008

About 3 months ago our TV went into a widescreen format and the left and right edges of the picture are now cut off - even the TV's built in channel display got the chop and we are unable to see which channel we are on. I would estimate we are losing about 5-6 inches of viewable picture, and it seemed to randomly occur one day.

Initially we thought one of the kids we were watching messed with a setting, but it almost seems like a part of the TV went bad or something along those lines. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Normallly, if the picture size button on the remote for the television does not achieve the desired affect, then, a cable box or a satelite box is where the change needs to be made.
For example:
A Motorola Cable box needs to be set up to go to a wide screen or zoom when an analog signal is detected.
Some Dish Network boxes have Size buttons on their remotes and also in their main menu.
The name of the button on the remote is called format.
It's difficult to determine the repair without knowing the types of the peripherals.
Hope this helps.

Change picture size firetv

To change the picture size on Fire TV, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Settings menu on your Fire TV.
  2. Select "Display & Sounds" or "Display & Sound" (depending on your Fire TV version).
  3. Scroll down to the "Display" section and select "Calibrate Display".
  4. Choose the option that matches the aspect ratio of your TV (e.g. 16:9 for most modern widescreen TVs).
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the picture size and position until it fits your screen properly.
  6. Once you're satisfied with the changes, select "Save" to apply the new settings.
Alternatively, you can also adjust the picture size and zoom level directly from the video playback screen. While watching a video, press the "Options" button on your Fire TV remote and select "Picture Size" or "Zoom" to adjust the settings.
Note that the exact steps and menu options may vary depending on your Fire TV version and software version.

How do I change the picture size?

You can change the picture size by using either the TV remote or the cable box remote (which ever you are using). Just go into the TV settings option, scroll through the different options that adjust everything from color and tint, sound, contrast, etc, and you should find one for changing the screen size (my Sony TV can be changed from normal, and wide, to wide zoom).

The score on football games on fox and cbs are halfway off the screen. How do I fix this?

Hello

It is likely that you have the "picture size" set to a mode that does not match what the channel is actually providing.

Go to the Menu options on your TV and then look for the Picture options. Change the size between the different options (typically 16:9, 4:3, Wide, Fit to Screen, etc.) and see which mode works best for the Fox and CBS broadcasts.

It is likely you have the TV set to Wide or Fit to Screen. Both change the settings to make 4:3 broadcasts fill the screen of a wide screen TV. Changing this to 16:9 should allow you to see the information on the sides and bottom of the screen again.

Picture size

I found the user manual online, and the pictures in it are really helpful and make this make a lot more sense, but:
1. Press [SCREEN MODE], to switch the TV aspect ratio.
2. Press [SCREEN MODE] repeatedly until the normal screen displays.
NOTE: • Some programs may not offer all display mode options.
4:3 Programming
[Sidebar] Sidebar displays a 4:3 picture at its standard 4:3 size. Sidebars will be displayed on the right and left edges of the screen.
[Full] Full displays a 4:3 picture at a 16:9 size, with horizontal elongation necessary to fill the screen.
[Cinema] Cinema displays a 4:3 picture at a 16:9 size, with less horizontal elongation necessary to fill the screen because a little bit of the top and bottom edge of the screen will be cut off.
[Wide] Wide displays the center of the picture as original size and the outer sides of the picture will be elongated. The size of the picture will depend on the original signal.
16:9 Programming
[Full] A picture is displayed at 16:9 size as it is.
[Zoom] Zoom displays a 16:9 picture without changing its horizontal and vertical ratio, at its maximum size.
[Cinema] Cinema displays a 16:9 picture with vertical elongation.
[Expand] Expand displays a 16:9 picture with horizontal elongation

How do I change it from wide screen to regular? I have a black area above and below the picture.

Hello
You can set the picture size by remote control itself.

You can vide 480i format programmes in three picture sizes. 4:3, 16:9, and ZOOM
You can change the picture size by pressing the PICTURE SIZE button on the remote control.
4:3 Picutre size
To fill the screen, the top and bottom edges are extedted more widely, although the center of the picture remains near the former ratio.
If receiving a 4:3 programme, the image size is displayed in its originally formatted proportion.
16:9 picure size
This image displays the size of standard 16:9 with black bars at the top and bottom.
If receiving a 4:3 programme, the image is displayed with black bars at the top and bottom and stretched wider.

NOTE: If a fixed bar remains on the screen for a long period of time, the image can become parmanantly engrained in the screen and cause subtle but permanent ghost images. Never leave your TV for long periods of time while it is displaying these images.

Zoom picture size [for 16:9 formats]
The entire picture is uniformly enlarged --it is stretched the same amount both wider and taller (retains its original proportion). The right and left edges of the picture may be hidden.
OK.

I have a Compaq Q2009 (new). The picture is too wide on the right side, cutting off the image about 1/4".

There are a series of buttons on the monitor. There's probably a Menu button that allows you to change the dimensions and sizes of your picture on the screen. You'll need to open the picture menu, and find the Horizontal picture options. There are normally two options - one changes the horizontal placement, and the other changes the horizontal size. You can play with these two options until you can see your whole screen.

I have a T5054 TV and the picture has zoomed in and is way too big, however in the picture settings menu the zoom option is not highlighted in Component mode.

There could be a problem, but verify the settings as listed in the owner's manual as follows:

1 Press the MENU button to display the menu.
Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select Picture, then press the ENTER button.
2 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select Size, then press the ENTER button.
3 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select the screen format you want.
Press the ENTER button.
Press the EXIT button to exit.
16:9 : Sets the picture to 16:9 wide mode.
Zoom1 : Magnifies the size of the picture on the screen.
Zoom2 : Expands the Zoom1 format picture.
Wide Fit : Enlarges the aspect ratio of the picture to fit the entire screen.
4:3 : Sets the picture to 4:3 normal mode.
Just Scan : Use this function to see the full image without any cutoff when DTV
or HDMI 720p/1080i signals are input.
Press the P.SIZE button on the remote control to change the picture size.

And realize the restrictions as listed:

• In TV, VIDEO, S-VIDEO, and COMPONENT(480i, 480p) modes, all screen
modes can be selected. (16:9 ➞ Zoom1 ➞ Zoom2 ➞ 4:3)
• In COMPONENT(720p, 1080i) or HDMI(720p, 1080i) mode, 16:9, 4:3 and
Wide Fit can be selected.
• In Zoom1, Zoom2 and Wide Fit modes, you can move the picture on the
screen by pressing the ▲ or ▼ button.
•You can not change the picture size when PIP is set to Double.
•When Double ( , ) mode has been set in PIP, the Picture Size cannot
be set.
•Wide Fit can be used when watching a Digital HD (High Definition) signal.
Wide Fit sets the optimum picture format by expanding it both horizontally and
vertically. For example, you can reset the picture in 4:3 format to 16:9. Wide Fit
does not support all external devices (DVD, VCR etc.).

Keep us posted.

Normal Picture Mode Not Available With Cox HD-DVR (Motorola DCH3416) and HDMI Cable

With an HDMI cable connected, the cable box determines the picture size. The settings on the cable box must be changed in order for you to get the correct picture size. I have some experience with Motorola cable boxes; usually to access the settings you turn the box OFF and then press the menu or settings button on the box to bring up the display menu. Hope this helps!
