We used the self-clean feature for the first time today. I set both upper and lower ovens to clean. The lower one started first and the upper one was in "delay" mode. After about 40 minutes, the F2 code and associated "overheated" beeping began. The "locked door" words/light kept blinking. We pressed Clear/Off for the lower oven and the beeping stopped. The "locked door" words kept blinking. However, after about 30 seconds the beeping and F2 began again. We pressed Clear/Off again, it stopped, then started again. Apparently the alarm will beep when heat is sensed above acceptable levels. Until the oven cools below that level, the beeping will continue to trigger. It took about 10 minutes of pressing clear/off for ours to finally stop. Oven is now cooled down. Manual says to just restart cycle again after cool down. I'm game! My husband is not. He is worried about our cabinets catching on fire because of how hot the oven gets. We have to warranty rights because we did not purchase the oven and I believe manufacturer's periods are past anyway. We can't afford service calls or a new oven. Cleaning solutions cannot be used inside the interior of a self-clean oven and my husband refuses to use the feature again. HELP - I need to get it clean. Is it safe to try the self-clean cycle again? Or can these things really set our house on fire? Judith
Your husband is correct, kind of. You should not try self clean again until you get the oven repaired. You have a temp sensor going out. I doubt that the oven actually got too hot, most likely the resistor in the sensor is failing as it heats up and giving a false temp reading.Since the lower oven was operating at the time, it is probably the sensor in the lower oven. Don't use it for baking until you get it repaired. It will go out completely and shut down both ovens. You should be able to get a new sensor for around $30 and they are not hard to replace.
The oven won't set your house on fire during clean mode if the cabinets were built with the correct air space and dimensions, but they do get very hot, about 800 degrees F. Most ovens give no trouble during the clean cycle, but if there is any weak components in the electronics system it will show up then. It will give you less trouble over time if you don't use the self clean mode and just manually clean it.

My double oven recently caught fire during the self clean cycle. I'm fortunate my house is still intact. The tech was here today and declared the part in the control panel replace 6 months ago was the cause of the fire. Beware!
