I recently purchased the Onkyo 605. I do not have any remote speakers connected yet. I connected the HDMI output to my the HDMI input on my monitor and there is no sound. I bypassed the Onkyo 605 and connected the cable directly to the Dish HDMI output and ther is sound.

To set up your home theater system with the equipment you mentioned, follow these steps:
Connect the Onkyo receiver to the NEC TV using an HDMI cable. Make sure the HDMI input on the TV is set to the correct input for the Onkyo receiver.
Connect the Panasonic DVD player to the Onkyo receiver using an HDMI cable.
Connect the Firestick Lite to the Onkyo receiver using an HDMI cable.
Connect the Panasonic speakers to the Onkyo receiver using speaker wires. Make sure you connect the speakers to the correct speaker terminals on the receiver, which are usually labeled with the speaker's position (e.g. front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right).
Configure the Onkyo receiver to use the correct input for each device. For example, set the input to "DVD" when you want to watch a movie on the Panasonic DVD player, or set the input to "Firestick" when you want to watch content on the Firestick Lite.
Configure the audio settings on the Onkyo receiver to use the correct audio format for your content. For example, if you are watching a movie with Dolby Digital surround sound, make sure the receiver is set to decode Dolby Digital audio.
Adjust the volume and other audio settings on the Onkyo receiver as needed to optimize the sound quality.
Once you have completed these steps, you should be able to enjoy surround sound audio from your Panasonic speakers through the Onkyo receiver.
The chances are that you have selected an incorrect sound setting or not switched it on, for the HDMI you are using. With Onkyo receivers each connection will have it own settings for video and sound. You just need to look in the manual as to how to select the settings.
you have the output of the receiver going to the input of the TV?
i believe that you should be running the TV output to the receiver input to get your sound from the TV to the receiver and thus speakers.
the easiest setup is to just run your cable box and DVD player HDMI's into your TV inputs. then run another HDMI from the TV output to the receiver input.
Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.
Since you have the cable connected to the reciever thru the HDMI, you may have accidently changed the input source of the reciever from HDMI or digital to analog.
When you have the reciever set to listen to the cable, check the input mode and make sure it is set to use the HDMI or digital input and not the analog.
The rca jacks are analog, and they worked, so I think you have just solved your own problem without realizing it.

YOU ARE PROBABLY USING 5 SPEAKERS WITH OR WITHOUT A SUB, AND YOU CONNECTED THE REAR SPEAKERS TO THE REAR SPEAKER OUTPUTS. THEY WON'T WORK THIS WAY. RECONNECT THE REARS TO THE SURROUND SOUND SIDE SPEAKERS, AND RERUN THE AUDISY SETUP. THIS SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AND SET UP THE DVD INPUT, IT WON'T WORK RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, TOO MANY VARIABLES.

I CAN'T GET MY 875 TO RECOGNIZE COMPONENT VIDEO SIGNALS, I GUESS I'M STUCK USING HDMI, AND COMPOSIT INPUTS.
All you have to do is to do a factory reset on everything, but I thing mostly on your 605, but I would do it on the TV as well. I think what had happened is after I set everything up for the first time, it worked great. As the days when on I started to play with all of the futures the 605 and the TV had to offer. I was turning them on and off to see what everything did. What I think I did was, I turned on something in the 605 that the TV did not know how to cope with. If I had to guess, I think it is the Lip-sink feature (Spelling?) in the 605. Anyway disconnect everything, look in your manuals of the TV and the 605 to see how to do the factory reset on both. Then turn your TV on. After it does it’s start up for the first time (again), start connecting the 605. It has been working great for me after I did this. Do not count on help from the people you bought it from or the people who made it. This stuff is so new they do not really know how to fix it.
