Garage door continues running even though sliding switch contacts end limit switch. Bends running bar. Only when closing- brown wire not broken

My guess is that the limit switch is not working or otherwise it would stop! Repair or replace the end limit switch. Do you have an OHM meter? if so OHM it out both open and closed if it does not change then it is bad.

Older garage door opener, 1/2 hp limit switch does not stop door in up position keeps trying and does not shut off?

If this is a Craftsman you need to remove the cover and you can then watch the limit switch assembly. If it is a Genie the up limit contact is probably broken

Craftsman opener is not responding to limit switch on the down phase-- it continues down until the door goes full closed position and auto reverses. any suggestions? I have replaced the limit switch and...

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit' control. Turn this in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. It would be a good idea to take the cover off and watch the limit assembly while you are doing this to make sure it contacts before the door hits the floor.

Craftman 1/2 hp chain drive , stuck in down motion

The thing to do is remove the cover and watch the limit switch assembly. You should be able to see how it is supposed to work and determine what is wrong. A small gear on the end of the shaft turns the limit switch assembly to make contact and turn off the motor in each direction. Something may be broken or out of place. There is also a possibility your logic board is bad especially if you have had electrical storms recently.

I have a Craftsman 1/2 HP chain drive garage door opener.

You need to take the cover off the motor unit and watch how the limit switch assembly works. If the door is not stopping when the contacts make then you have a bad logic board.

Ok well the best advise I can give you is to open up your opener case should be a 1/4 nut driver or a Philips head screw driver. Make sure to unplug it first. Once the case is off, find a reqtangle black box with three white plastic screws they are what controls the limits. Chances are they got knocked off wheny ou were putting in the gear. check to make sure the wires are hooked up and find the placement of the limits make sure they can touch each other. Little tip I do for my customs is get a piece of sand paper and rub it agaist the metal contacts for the limits only. (after time lift master openers bind up a film and dont stop where they supposed to.) If your still not sure how the limits work plus in the opener and run it make sure not to put your hands inside the opener and nothing esle is in the way. Then adjest the limits as needed. That should take care of you if not go ahead and make another post ill check back with you.
