Hmm.... try running it for a while with something plugged in that won't mind the voltage drop... like a light bulb..

The most common cause is the air/fuel mixture. But 1st I would suggest changing thew oil and spark plug, as old oil will thicken up and slow down the generator.
After that the next step would be to adjust the speed of the generator. Find the Carb, and adjust the black carb screw to speed it up. Do not have anything expensive plugged in, a light bulb etc.

Wow, I am surprised it can output that kind of power... Does the vehicle run fine otherwise beside this issue? Never heard of a vehicle alternator putting out that high of volts.

Generator does not output any power. Engine runs fine

I have the same problem and here is my troubleshooting steps I took.

1) Verified that the unit had no output with induction meter on cables coming out of top of generator head (three black and three white). You can use a volt meter too.
2) Checked that brushes were free and long enough.
3) Checked capacitor (condenser) was 130uF
4) Checked diodes

Generac 5250 with a 8 hp Honda engine. Runs fine, no output

Take a resistance reading across the brushes with and Ohm meter. (not running) You should read a low resistance. If you have no resistance across the brushes then then either the brushes are not mating with the armature or the the armature is open.
IF you have resistance then the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) in the endcap has failed. With the engine running and the Brush block disconnected you should have 4 - 12 VDC on the two wires going to the brush block. No voltage = bad AVR.

Depends on wattage demand of ac unit. VXA=W 110x20amps=2,0200 Watts. A 2,00 watt generator is too small. Best go for a 3,kw genset. A 5 kw will leave you room to run appliances and the ac simultaneously., otherwise you will need to watch your margin usage. I think 4.5 kw gensets are also available. Happy trails.

No Spark at plugs on my 2000 Honda Valkyrie GL1500 C (60,000 mi)

based on this, have you checked the ignition switch? these have multiple output wires on some bikes, and sometimes just one may fail, allowing the appearance of things lighting up, but no ignition. far as the voltage comment, you will never have over 12 volts until it is running (alternator must be turning). the 2.3 volts doesnt sound right though, but i cant be certain without study of the diagram. i would call that a clue. maybe it will help.

Charging

Hi

The output on any bike is generally pretty low on idle. This may drop as low as 13 volts. You need 2-3000 revs on to get towards full power output. Both the current and voltage fall to their lowest output at tick over speeds. For the alternator to be working correctly (charging the battery) it should be able to muster 14.5 volts at 3000 revs regardless of how much electrical gear you are running. Hope I have answered your question enough. Happy to talk to you further.
