As hooton8 stated i have the electrolux epic 6500 sr. as well and when i attempt to vacuum i turn it on and it turns off after about 3 seconds. new bag nothing stuck in tube. I turned dial to the right all the way. Works when hose is not connected..hose is clear.
Turn the knob on the top of the canister all the way to the right and try it again.

There are two electical connections on the back of the rewinder. As the wires are exact length it is difficult to attach them to the wrong spot. The one the majority of people miss is the one at the bottom of the rewinder. It is a wide terminal with a narrower tip. The wide portion has to fit through the fitting at the back and bottom of the motor. Then the 2 piggy back wires should be slid onto the narrow part. Use needle node pliers to help. If you just slip the piggy back wires on, the temperature light will come on and the machine will only run if it happens to the touching the electrical fitting from the motor. Great way to have a fire! Also, when viewing from the left side near the rear, there is a white wire from the bag sensor that has to be slipped onto a (spade) terminal which already has 2 other wire connected. Easy to miss. Took me a while to figure out, but it works.
