Lever & belt placement in Kenmore Progressive upright vacuum

Hi. I have a Kenmore Progressive upright vacuum cleaner that I bought 9 or 10 years ago. I took the plastic top off to clean out some hair that was stuck around the brushes and roller on the bottom. When I move the lever on the back left of the vacuum to go from the Floor/Tools setting to the Carpet setting, is the belt supposed to go around the peg that's connected to that lever? It just looks like the peg is pushing down on top of the belt when I push the lever up to the Carpet setting. Thank you for any help you can give!

You are correct. The belt is supposed to go around the peg that is connected to the lever so that when it is on the Floor /Tools setting the belt is not driven by the drive shaft.

Kenmore progressive 360 vacuum cleaner has low suction

Check the tube that leads down to the brush head for clogging as well as any motor or HEPA filters. If that still shows nothing, take the cover off the brush head (like you're changing the belt) and look for obstructions in there. Usually, if you have low suction on the accessory hose, the problem is with a motor filter, HEPA filter, or a clog where the hose goes into the unit. If you have good suction on the accessory hose but none on the floor, it's usually in the brush head (clog or broken belt) Good luck

My purple proggesive kenmore upright motor works but beater not beating help thank you

I just had the same problem - reset button didn't trip - cleaned the roller - ultimately found there is an override switch at the point where the hose attaches to the base of the vacuum - it disables the roller when you use the attachments. The hose had become loose (but not disconnected) enough to trip the switch. An easy fix after alot of tinkering... p.s. All those "experts" that said to change a belt obviously don't understand that this model is beltless...

Kenmore Progressive Bagless vacuum cleaner

Check down by the brush roll to see if the inlet is clogged. This type of problem usually means there is a clog. But you do have a year's warr. on this, if you can't figure it out, then take it a Sears repair shop.
