My computer turns on but does not go past the booting page. I ran a diagnostic test and got the error code: 2000-0146. What does this mean?
It means "DST Log contains previous error(s)."
Dell Support says “If the diagnostic test reports one of the above errors, refer to Dell Troubleshooting Wizard: "Hard Drive Fails the Diagnostics" Wizard ID: 324398”

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help. I don't know what you mean about the thumbs up; I just logged into my account for the first time today and rated you..."
You asked "what does this mean?" and I tell you. So you reward me with 2 thumbs up? Why didn't you say you wanted me to come to your house and fix the darned thing?
Sorry David... when I logged in, it had it rated as 2 thumbs up.
Hi,
I had a same problem after my laptop fell down. Can you tell me, whether i can recover my data atleast from the hard drive. If so, some pointers plz.
If your harddrive was not running when it fell, the chances are good it wasn't damaged and should be very simple to recover the data. Remove it from the laptop and connect it via an external enclosure purchased online or at most computer stores. Just tell them whether you have a SATA or IDE drive and they will give you the right enclosure which you can connect with a USB port. Once connected, it will appear as a drive in Explorer. Simply copy the files to the new computer.
If the harddrive was damaged in the fall, data recovery can be very expensive ($800+) so unless the data is critical, it probably is not worth the effort. Sites such as http://www.securedatarecovery.com can perform data recovery.
