Hello,

To delete a partiition is quite easy in windows. but you will need a third party application like "partition magic" to merge two partitions together, this could be costly

The best advice I could give you is to back up all your information and reinstall your windows straight onto one partition. This will improve your overall speed and also probly also free more space by deleting unwanted programs, spam etc.

Regards

There are several ways to format in XPhard drive full running xp ,drive is paritionedc,d - 2_bing.gif:

  1. During install
  2. Using Diskmanagement under administrative tools
  3. Using the recovehard drive full running xp ,drive is paritionedc,d - 2_bing.gif2_bing.gif
  4. Using start run cmd then the format command.
  5. Right click on the drive in explorer and select format.
  6. Using a Win98 boot disk
Note: WinXP will not let you mess with the boot partition or system partition since both contain items required to boot and run WinXP. Thus, you should use the install process to format system and boot drive.

Here is the easiest way to perform a "Clean Install" of XP:

Using Windows XP2_bing.gif CD:
  1. Insert your XP CD in the drive while running your current installation of XP.
  2. You will be given some options here. You can select:
  • Clean Install
  • New Installation
  • Advanced
...and others I believe. But since this tutorial teaches a Clean Installation of XP, select "Clean Install".
  1. Put a checkmark in the box to "designate where you want to install XP" (or some such dialog). Typically, you will choose to install XP on your C: drive.
  2. Next, you will need to select the file system you wish to use. I recommend selecting NTFS as it is more secure than the FAT32 system.
  3. Setup will then format the partition you chose and then you can install XP clean on that partition. Be sure that if you have more than one partition, you select the correct one.
  4. Install your Windows XP Operating System.
Using Windows 98 Boot Disk:

Get yourself a Windows 98 boot-diskette with fdisk. Delete all partitions and THEN boot from the CD. If XP's setup finds formatted partitions, it proceeds without user intervention. If it doesn't find any, setup will prompt you for partitioning and formatting.

Temporary files always full

You can do this:
1. Move (cut and paste) around 2GB - 3GB of your data to an external storage (USB flash drive or hard drive),
2. Fix the hard drive using Norton Utility (download and run it):

DELL 5150 hard drive error 7

Error code 7 means that your hard disk drive failed and is defective. As for reloading windows XP, I wouldn't. It's not supported by Microsoft any more. I would load Win 7 after replaceing the drive.

My 250 gb hard drive is only showing capacity of 127gb

Firstly install SP3 if that doesnt work you need to update your bios to get large disk support. If you dont want to perform any of these fixes you could simply split the drive into 2 or more partitions to access the full 250gb. Goto Control Panel/Computer Management/Disk Management you will see in there the missing gb's of your drive. Simply right click it format it and give it a drive letter.......Cheers from Scott

Norton says i need to back it up but if i dont will my computer die on me?

It shouldn't unless norton detects iminent hard drive failure. Norton just wants to complete its steps in making your computer safe and recoverable. You do not have to back up but if you do have hard drive death this could save your important documents. There should be an option in norton to select not to notify you about system backup. Good Luck

When I created the partitions, all seemed o.k, but when I installed Windows, the PC get crazy. When I eliminate the partition and again I create it with partition magic,it reports all o.k. But when I...

I never did like norton stuff.

format the whole hard drive as one partition (not with norton)

use FDISK or similar

then to let the xp disk do its own thing

after xp is installed and running fine then run norton PM and resize to what you want for the C drive and let norton do its stuff.

you should now have C and D drives. if you want to split further use norton PM again and resize D and once again let norton do the business. you should now have C, D(but smaller) here I would use microsofts disk manager or norton toformat the last bit if thats what you did. and so on ad infinitum.

the 110 error means there is alread xp on the destination and it cannot go ahead usually if i was doing a clean install i would not have told it to leave the system intact but told it to go ahead and format (unless i was doing a repair install)

Cannot launch my Norton 360 to perform scan

Boot in safe mode and try to run virus software.
If you can remove hard drive? find another hard drive that has a system with virus software, and make your drive the secondary drive and run virus software.
Usually your virus cd boots or lets you make a boot floppy, when booted run virus software.
Have a nice day

Boot drive no longer has a drive letter

I am not a fan of Norton, but, I would uninstall Norton 360, see if the drive letter comes back. If that works you can try to re-install your Norton, and if it happens again, use a different anti-virus.
