I have a Cannon MP500 and when I try to print I am getting "inner cover is open. Close the inner cover and press ok" error message. What and where is inner door and when did I ever open it?

The inner cover is a flap on the inside in front of the carriage when it is at rest when the cover us open. You had to flip the inner cover down to access the ink cartridges.
Open the cover. The inner cover is in the center and need to be flipped up.
Good luck.

Problem with my Canon Pixma MP500

Try a hard reset first: Unplug the printer from power source and PC, wait about 5 minutes and replug. Should the issue recur, then the cover sensor is probably faulty. That is the reason you are getting this error repeatedly. The only solution is to send the printer in for servicing and get the sensor repaired/replaced.

In any case, here are the steps to close the inner cover:

1. Press the Open Button (1) to open the Paper Output Tray (2).

2. Raise the Scanning Unit until it stops.

3. Close the Inner Cover

4. Now close the Scanning Unit.

You can also try reinstalling the printer software along with any patches, updates, etc from the Canon website. Make sure you uninstall the existing software first though..

If neither works, then its time to take the printer in for servicing. You could try to contact them by phone first:
  • Toll-free live technical support** Monday through Friday 10:00 AM ET to 10:00 PM ET (excluding holidays) at 1-800-828-4040
  • The location of the ASF nearest you for carry-in service at 1-800-828-4040
  • Toll-free TDD Support Line for the Hearing Impaired Monday - Saturday (excluding holidays) at 1-866-251-3752
  • Technical Support for Customers in Canada at 1-800-OK-CANON
Hope that helps!

The inner cover (flap in front of cartridges) is closed but the following sign keeps reappearing "inner cover is open. Close the inner cover and press ok".

When the message shows means inner cover sensor is faulty so it cannot detect inner cover state correctly. Try to clean the contact sensor with contact cleaner is good idea since it sometimes an oxidation occurs. Many times I success fix the problem like this.

Canon Printer Inside Cover Open Error Message

There are sensors that tell if covers are in place. Some sensors are photocells, some are little switches. A tab will interrupt the photocell or push the switch. If the tab has broken off, make a new one. The fun part is finding the sensor.

CD printing error 'inner cover is open'

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.

  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

Cd tray error Canon Pixma MP810

Sorry a little late only just read your problem.
The location is not the bottom tray feeder but the disk tray. In settings change your media type to "Printable Disk" the paper scource should automatically change to "Disk Tray" and hopefully every thing will work OK.
