How to transfer Panasonic DMR-E80H recorded DVDs to computer

Does anyone know how to transfer DVDs recorded on the Panasonic DMR-E80H DVD recorder to a Windows computer? And what format Panasonic uses to record the DVDs? Several years ago I recorded family videos onto DVDs, and now would like to transfer them onto my computer to edit them and make copies for my kids. I can't get them to be recognized or play on my computer - possibly because the Panasonic records on DVD-R disks & my computer seems to only like DVD+R disks. Any ideas on how to get my family DVDs onto my computer and copy them?

The original disks can be viewed on my PC using Cyberlink Power DVD & (on some computers) Intervideo WinDVD (but notably not Windows Media Center or Player). However, I have tried several programs to either copy the DVD onto another DVD (both DVD to DVD & cloning) or to save the DVDs to my hard drive. These included Handbrake, DVDFab6, & Infrarecorder. It looked like DVDFab6 was recording, but the resulting disk was full with 0 bytes of data. None of them played either on the computer or in our DVD players. At this point I don't know if the problem is the format of the video on the original DVD-Rs (BUP, IFO, & VOB?), my CD/DVD-RW drive, or the software. Any ideas are appreciated.

The DVDs had been finalized on the Panasonic DVR & played on my computer. I just have not been able to copy them onto another DVD for my kids & for safekeeping. Thanks, Steven for the tip on Slysoft. Will it also transfer from one DVD to another? I'd prefer making a copy of the existing DVD, but at least I still have the original old family videos and a working VCR if I need to start over.

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I have just purchased the DMR-BST835EG Blu-Ray Recorder, which has many attractive features. In fact, I also recommended this product to
    a friend of mine.

My prime intention is to transfer some Internet downloaded .MKV-HD & .MP4-HD movies, presently stored on a Buffalo USB-powered external hard-disk, onto the Panasonic recorder's internal (1TB) hard-disk. However, after registering
the said USB-HDD on the DMR, its driver is no longer recognized on my computer...and it has
to be re-formatted via the PC, with the result that the Blu-Ray recorder again refuses to copy video files from it.

What can I do? This article (the DMR) was purchased, for over EUR 600, from EBay,
mainly for the above-stated purpose, repeat: copying the HD films, presently kept on external hard-disks, onto the Panasonic recorder (so as to transfer the files onto
    Blu-Ray discs later on).

Please treat as urgent, as I would like to start using the Panasonic article accordingly, and my friend also needs this information before buying the DMR-BST835EG (too).

    I earnestly await your reply.

Thanks in anticipation for your time and attention.

    Best regards,
    Ivan Micallef

P.S.: Is there some firmware update which could enable the USB-HDD >> HDD (1 Terabyte) recording ? This is an option which should be possible, also according to the DMR's "Copy Video" menu.

; According to various website blogs,
many other clients are facing the same
problem - what we are asking for is for
the elimination of the USB-HDD registration request.

; Preferably, the external hard-disk accepted/recognized by the Panasonic DMR
should remain in the NTFS format and not changed to the FAT32 system. Thanks again.

I have to agree with XELIAM regarding finishing the disk, under the DVD "FUNCTIONS" selection from the remote. I also use the SLYSOFT products to transfer my videos to what ever other mode of video I wish to have, whether iPOD (MP4), or DIVX (AVI) or loads of other options. Slysoft makes a GREAT product

MILMOM - Absolutely, it will dupe from DVD to DVD with DVD Copy. The DVD Mobile allows me to RIP my DVDs to use on my iPOD Touch (or other player). I have not found ANY DVD that I have not been able to duplicate or convert for safe keeping.

I began using the product years ago when my son scratched an original GAME DVD. It took us about 90-days to get it replaced by the vendor, and of couse there were all sort of fees involved. Now I simply make an operational copy that he uses until it is damaged, then we make a new one for him to use - storing it with the original disk and the documentation. That way we stay 100% legal, but also 100% safe!

If you had finalized the DVDs on the DMR-E80H recorder, it should be readable on most DVD drives on a PC. Unfinalized DVDs can only be played on the DMR-E80H.

Panasonic DMR-E80H "u99" error message?

It sounds like the HDD is finished, it could not recover, you could see if a computer repair store can help, they have the tools and the software to take it further, but I would consider cost for the attempt.

Panasonic DMR-E80H DVD recorder no longer reads DVD-R or DVD Ram it will play commercial DVDs. I've cleaned the lens, updated the Firmware and still no help.

The one thing that will alway fail on these as well as any laser read piece of equipment is the laser reader. I would check into that to start and don't look into the laser. The parts are available and it is a matter of your experience with electronics as to how easy this will be for you to replace.

My DMR_E80H recorder does not read blank dvd-r disks

I don't have a solution but I am having the same problem (same model DMR-E80H). It will read finalized dvds but won't recognize or play blank or non-finalized dvds. About a year ago I had to replace the hard drive . . . I'm just assuming that the dvd recorder is just slowly breaking down and will need some kind of repair of certain components. (I think we bought it new in 2003/2004?)

I want to download the shows recorded on the hard drive to my computer to watch when I travel. I would prefer not to burn DVDs every week. Is there a solution?

Yes, I have a good solution for you. Checkout at www.safecopybackup.com. They have 3GB free unlimited storage for a trial. Hopefully, it will work for u dear. Actually, DVDs are so frustrating at times, so fragile that they can be damaged easily. Good luck!

My DMR-E80H will no longer record onto blank DVDs

One solution is to clean the laser lens. Try using one of those lens cleaning CDs.

Also, sometimes the DVD may slip on the spindle, which may cause reading errors. Spindle cleaning usually involves taking the machine apart.

DMR-E80H Hard drive problem seems to pretty common. My drive started making the famaous kerchunk noise tonight. After disassembly I see the drive is a ATA133 Maxtor drive....are you sure that you replaced it with the correct drive? I may contact Maxtor and try to get an RMA since the drive is only 3yrs old. Good Luck
