First, insert the DVD into the recorder.
Then, try double-click on OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote control. You have to make it very quick - two quick clicks on the same button. If done correctly, you will first see OPEN, then CLOSE in the right corner of the screen.
When done successfully, the unit will recognize the DVD again (if the burner has not failed totally.)

I tried that with RD-XS55 (it has the same DVD-RAM drive as RD-XS35.) It is not perfect solution, but it might help temporarily. In my situation, it bring my dvd drive back to "life," so I do not need to do double-click all the time.

Let's face it, your burner is dying whether you like it or not. And new replacement would cost you around $200.

When a DVD player starts doing that, it either needs to be cleaned, or something is going wrong with the DVD mechanism inside of it. You can purchase DVD lens cleaner from any large retail store that has an electronics section. However, if you clean it and the problem persists, it will likely be cheaper to replace the unit rather than trying to have it repaired unless you're under warranty in which case any repair or exchange will be covered by said warranty. If you call the manufacturer they will give you your full range of options.

First, one correction. Panasonic website for parts asks $437 plus tax and shipping for replacement part for PANSONIC SA-HT1500 dvd recorder.

My solution. I opened the box and unplug and plug back cable with black tape going to HDD, and tighten cable near DVD-RAM drive. I closed the unit, connected as before, and whooala, everything is back in normal. Apparently, so connections loose over time.
So, for now, my SA-HT1500 dvd recorder works OK, and I can see all contents on recorded DVDs and DVD-RAMs, and I am able to record from and to DVDs.

I also find out that in the worst scenario, there is flat fee charge for repair in autorized Panasonic repair center. The phone number is 847-468-5543, and it is in Elgin, Illinois. You have to leave message on their answering machine, and they will call you back. There is $130 flat fee for all parts, labor and shipping. Definitely worthy compare to ridiculous price for replacement part on Panasonic website.

I was trying to download a programme that was too big from the hard drive to the disc.Once I inserted a divide in the progeamme everything worked Ok,

Use pressurized air to blow the dust out of it. If not it is a problem with the read write head will cost about 120 to replace.

First off is the drive a read only drive or a Read/write drive? If you look at the front drawer check to see if there is a big RW(read/writable) on the front of the drawer. If it doesn't have the RW then you won't be able to burn discs. If it says RW then you will be able use it to copy DVDs. You accomplish this by using software to copy the disc you're interested in to your hard drive and then using the copy on the hard disc to copy back to a blank recordable DVD placed in to tray.

Take the lid off by taking the 2 to 4 screws out of the sides of the unit to get the disc out.

First, make sure the DVD Recorder is completely disconnected from the Main Supply.

Then, if you look on the base of the unit, (just underneath the front of the Disc Insert/Eject Tray), there is a small slot, (approx 25 x 8mm), in which you can see a small, white, plastic lever probably situated near the right-hand side of the slot.

Then move this lever gently to the left, and then turn it on and the tray opens by pushing the button.

i would say for some reason your dvd player is not compatible from now on with that brand of blank dvd!


get the firmware update from the brand website all you do is download the file burnit on a cd and put it in the dvd player should fix most and eventual problems
