Whining during spin cycle

I've got an 8-yr old MAH4000. It's still operating just fine but recently it has started to make a loud whining sound during the spin cycle. It sounds a bit like a jet engine. What might this be and am I headed for trouble?

Could be a loose belt, or drum bearings,or ( drum rollers if your model is so equiped) In my mind machine would be worth repair when needed.
hope this is helpful

My front load washing machine is making a bad whining noise and some of the clothes have muck on them

sounds like the spin bearing is bad. that would explain loud noise. grease from the bearing failure is probably mixing with the water during the cycle. if the unit is over 5 years old, probably not worth repairing, financially speaking.

Very noisy and loud vibrations on spin cycle of Frigidaire FTF2140FS front load washing machine

Is it just during the spin cycle that it machine is noisy or the noise is less during the wash cycle? Also is the noise a thumping type of noise or is it more of a whining or steady noise? If is a whining noise, it probally means that water has seeped past the seal and corroded the bearing of the washer. The noise is the failing bearing.

During the spin cycle it started making a whining

it must be motor run away condition. motor must have exceeded its design speed and the internal windings must have parted off. you did the right thing. but, when your son switched on again, it would have run for few minutes with all internal extra friction and stopped with burnt smell. you have lost the motor. but, before replacing the motor get the speed control system checked.

Washer makes loud, thumping noises during spin cycle.

support bracket that supports the tub is breaking. stick your hand inside and push up and down and see if its coming apart. if u look at it when it runs does it wobble?(the tub) if not take a look at the pulley on the back and see if its wobbly.

Yes, bearing, most definitely. It is a cheap part but difficult to replace.

Dishwasher Making Loud High Pitched Noise.

How deep do you want to get into this?It sounds like the wash pump motor bearings that are worn. You can pull the unit out flip it over and wd40 the bearings in the motor or you can replace the bearings.Try to lube them first.
