Belts will have spring tension on the idler pulleys.
Both traction and auger control cables will also have cable length adjustments to cause the travel of levers or idler pulleys to tighten belts. Adjustments are commonly located under the control panel/levers.

Toro Snow thrower 38588 Starts but will not move forward

Hi Jacquelin-
I found this link.
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/772531/Toro-38588.html?page=16#manual

On page 15-16, it talks about the "Replacing the Drive Belt". This might be the problem.

Hope this helps.

Toro Max 1028LXE Snow Thrower will not travel. Engine runs great, and the two stages of the thrower works but will not move. It was working for about two hours but now it isn't

thank you for the reply. with the belt drive take a ruler and push the belt down you can use your finger as a referance point if you can push it past the half inch mark the belt needs to be tightend you can do that by adjusting the belt tensioner thats done by losening the bolt that holds it in place then moving it so there is no more then half an inch of play in the belt and retightning the bolt. and if the tensioner is at its stops then the belt needs replacement.

Snow Thrower does not self-propel

Did you check under the handle area, near the blower itself for a transmission lever? This will engage & disengage the transmission.
