Hi !

I found this site which sells batteries for archos xs202 :
http://www.newmp3technology.com/xs200+batteries.html

Then you have to remove the covers (back and front) of your archos. Then melt the tin that retains the battery cables with a soldering iron.
Then melt the tin again to fix the new battery cables to the motherboard and you're all set. I did it this very morning without problems.

How do you change the battery on an archos 7 320gb

The ARCHOS 7 has a removable battery. You can purchase extra batteries fromwww.archos.com.Caution: if the battery is incorrectly replaced or short-circuited, this could resultin damage to the product and/or serious injuries to the user. Replace onlywith an original Archos battery. To replace the battery, follow these steps:

My player is telling me that i need to format the unit even though it's loaded with music files and have had no problems with it in three years. I don't know why this has happened. Please advise..thank you

Somehow the data has gotten corrupted and it can no longer read the contents, or worse, memory failure. You might be able to salvage some of the data by connecting it to a computer and copying the files to the computer. Then, disconnect and let the player format the memory.

Gmini hard disk reading problems

My Gmini XS202s did this twice both time cause the battery went flat while moving files across (I should always charge device while connecting to PC)

First time I reformatted device as FAT32 using fdisk (Windows formatting tool should do same)

Then downloaded latest AOS and copied to root directory. [get AOS from http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates.html?country=gb&lang=en]

second time I ran mkdosfs /media/disk (disk was mount point for gmini). This seemed to fix the device and I lost about 20 files. but better than reformat.

Repairing the GMini XS202

try this :
This works on most mini electronic devices like cellular phones and degital cameras etc .

it sounds crazy .

Remove the back (or Cover ) of the phone( or Camera ), battery, and SIM if your phone ( or Device ) uses one , DIRECTLY
.

Then, with a q-tip (or something similar), dab the connection points (shiny, goldish) on the battery, SIM, and phone. This should aid in drying.

Finally, place all contents in a bag of uncooked rice (separately, do not put back together just yet). it sounds crazy , but it draws the moisture out.

It normally is working after just 7-8 hours, but I would wait 12 hours or even 24 hours before attempting to use (just to be sure).

beware the water damage, despite being dry now, will void any warranties. Also, the phone's hardware is now weakened and if you drop it, the green mother board and circuitry could shatter - so be more careful.

This does work on electronic devices aside from phones as well. Simply tailor it to your device. If you do not have a SIM (Verizon phones, cameras, all others), remove only the battery. If you have an iPhone/iPod or GPS and cannot remove the battery, simply make sure it is all the way off, then put it in the rice bag. All electronic devices react the same to the rice trick.

Archos Jukebox 10

The batteries put a lot of stress on some solder joints, causing them to break. Not charging is one symptom. Go to rockbox.com and look for detailed instructions on fixing it.

Not swich off

Hold down the stop button for 15 seconds to try and force the unit to power off. Then leave it for a couple of days whilst the charge dissipates. Look at the charger you used and compare its output voltage to that of the Archos one. If the voltage is higher than the Archos one it is quite likely that the charge circuit and or the battery may have been adversely affected. If the unit still misbehaves after a few days changes are you will need to have it looked at. If it is in warranty, try a claim, but do not mention you used the wrong charger!
