Check voltage at unit. Also check the 5 amp fuse in the unit. If this unit has a float switch in the drain line check that. Rus

I have a Carrier Debonair 450 Thermostat. The back-light of the LCD screen does not work. Neither do the buttons for the thermostat glow red or blue respectively. What could be causing this problem?

The t-stat needs a common and a hot. I know that is simple but it doesn't hurt to ask. Do you have the 24 volts needed to operate the t-stat? If you have 18 volts that may affect the lights.

Carrier HVAC thermostat not fully displaying digital read out. Control bottoms doesn't work have to depress really hard and eventually works

Does it have a battery backup in the unit? If so replace them. If its an older model used frequently oil from your hands gets behind the buttons which causes intermittent connections and can cause display error. Remove the unit, carefully open it up and clean all contact surfaces with q-tip and a bit of rubbing alcohol. May solve your problem. While your at it make sure all wire connections are tight. Mark all wire locations during disassembly to make sure they go back in the right place.

Changed thermosat no power

Check for 24 volts across the red and white wire. If no, broken wire, bad fuse or bad board. If yes, bad thermostat.

I know it sounds simple but the batteries are probably in the wrong direction. If they are correctly installed and fresh you will usually get a display.

Blank screen sounds like a fried thermosat. Abrupt outages can affect certain types of thermostats. Make a jumper wire and jump across R and G. See if you get any action from anywhere. If a fan or compressor kicks in you know you have a burned out thermosat...
