It sounds like you cracked the screen. If it is cracked, you cannot fix it. Your only options are to replace the screen (BIG $$$) or buy a new set. If you can email me a pic of the TV I can tell you for sure if the screen is cracked. LCD screen are very thin, about as thick as a dime and it doesn't take much to crack them.
The underlying LCD panel has broken. this can happen on many devices and is often a result of a drastic temperature change. the only option is to replace the screen ether yourself or have it done at a local tv repaire center. if the product is still under warranty it should be replaced by the provider

What happened is the LCD has cracked. Normally the molecules in an LCD are lined up parallel to each other. When an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) breaks the liquid between the two sheets of display glass spread causing the molecules to loose that parallel orientation. That's where you get the colorful display. You can press on an LCD and cause this to happen without any damage (though I wouldn't recommend it to often).
Second explanation. Rainbow bright has a thing for you and she left you a "Rainbow Message" on your Ipod. She just hit it a bit too hard with the "Rainbow Wand" ":)......
As long as you don't care what it looks like then don't worry about it. In ten or twelve years when you spend all the money you saved by not buying the next greatest gadget to come out on a ski vacation in Whistler/Backcomb. You can call all your friends and ask them "HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW"? Before you buy a new one just remember to look around on-line for used
or replacement parts for yours. They are out there and with a little
bit of effort you can change out your screen.
I have an Ipod 6 gig mini that has parts to three different mini's in it. (Hey I'm a little hard on my gear. Plus working on a solid plate steel floor doesn't help.)
ur right the chime did it the screen ddnt crack but the piments in side are all jumbled ... the same happened when a relative got in a car accident... replacing will b needed tho
I too had a black line horizontally across the screen (on a 52" d62). It was brand new and was as if the screen had been "pinched" at the end of the line and it radiated outward (in my case, the "pinch" was at the extreme left and line went out to the right, like a crack).
Mine was a factory defect (right out of the box) and was replaced (2 yr now and no issues). This line of yours may have been there from the start and maybe you just didn't notice it?? Not a slam, just an observation.
