Check whether you are running as Black and White or Gray Scale. Many printers only print straight black by using all four toner cartridges- Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, black. If are running colored print in black and white and u choose grey scale it will automatically give you a screened image as a light print.
remove toner and drum unit
remove toner
check to see if there is toner in the drum unit if not fill unit run 5-10 prints
replace dev roller
replace drum cylinder(opc)
Either the toner cartridge is very close to empty or the drum unit needs to be replaced. Check your warning lights. Yellow = toner, red = drum. If no warning lights, pull out the toner/drum unit and remove the toner cartridge. Have a look at the cylinder in the drum (DR2125) - if it is very black and matt looking you will need to have it cleaned or just replace it.
According to the service manual for problems with light print image, the cause can be the Developers or High Voltage Power Supply (HVPS). Other possible causes are given as: Developer roller is stained when the toner or developer cartridge is almost consumed. Ambient temperature is below 10 degrees Centigrade. Bad contacts with the HVPS or abnormal output from the HVPS. To replace the Developers you would need to purchase a replacement Imaging Kit CLP-R300A. Any problems in the HVPS would require a factory repair.
Depending on what model of printer it is this can be a couple of causes. However they are more often than not caused by a fault somewhere in the cartridge.
The most common cause is a Drum fault in the cartridge. This particular fault is where the Drum has been exposed to Ultraviolet light. If the cartridge is at fault you can prove this by putting in another cartridge and trying again. This can be an empty cartridge as all you are trying to prove is that the cartridge is faulty. It could also be a stripped drum where the coating on the drum has worn or been scraped free from one side of the drum.
Other causes can be a faulty Wiper Blade (Also in the cartridge) this would normally show as a grey panel on the printout rather than solid Black. Faulty PCR also grey rather than solid black.
If it is printing completely blank on one half of the page but completely black on the other when trying to print a solid black page then I would suggest that you have toner settled on one end of the cartridge. Give the cartridge a shake if this is the case to free up the toner.
There is a defect in the Imaging Unit of these printers....if you replace the imaging unit, the problem of the faded black prints go away. If you have less than 7000 prints, you can call Samsung for a warrantied replacement. The Imaging Unit is supposed to last at least 20,000 prints.
Not able to print a status page. Tried holding down menu 5 sec and no output. I searched the menu and am not able to find how to print status page. I did print out a demo page and the black is great but when i print out text (like the entire menu map) the black is grey. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.
